...in Costa Rica. I was advised that there would not be many Ticas to choose from as they would celebrate with family. Are there any big plans or hotel parties that I should cause me to reconsider?

FYI - Last year i planned a new years trip thinking San Jose would be a happening place at that time and I couldn't have been more wrong. Very few girls to pick from at the Del Rey and not all but most of the foreign girls haven't returned from the holidays in their home country yet. If you have numbers of local girls you can contact to come over on an appointment basis it's not bad but the selection at the normal spots is limited during this time of the year.

Would not be my 1st choice as a time to go

Also - you are not using "tica" as another word for working girl, are you - it means Costa Rican female, not whore :)

Check out 6th street, I think it keeps on keeping on all through the holidays.

Yeah, w/ really ugly girls for the most part - most newbi's should stay away, for many reasons

Overall, it - Christmas and the few days before and after, as well as Holy week, around Easter - should be avoided, especially for those new to CR -

It's best to go somewhere nice with a favorita during the holidays. I did that NYE 2007, and went to Puerto Viejo. It was a blast. I'm not aware of any special hotel parties... but perhaps, the expats can provide more insight.

Different story altogether; agreed :)

However, w/ 4 posts, and booking his trip during the time specified, I highly doubt the OP falls into the category you outlined.

I didn't stay on New Year's Eve, but arrived on New years day. I was slow, may like 2 two chicas at SL and like 15-20 chicas at HDR throughout the night. The selection on New Years wasn't great, but I was able to find something that night though. After a day or two, it was back to normal as far as MP and freelance places. It depends on how long you plan to stay on your trip. If you are only going for 3 night type of trip, then I would say it isn't worth it. If your are staying 7 nights or more, then you will be good. Hope this helps.
