Today's page 1 (just under the birds shitting on the Plaza outside Teatro National) www.amcostarica.com talks about the passing of the Immigration laws here in CR. Once again it makes NO reference as to the status of the Perpetual Tourits regarding length of stay in Country(has been 90days) and time out of Country. (has been 72 hours)

Do you honestly think you have something to worry about? Sure it would be nice if they cleared things up but in the end this is still Costa Rica and things will be different for everyone.

No I have been keeping my perpetual tourist status without any problems. ( I adhere to the 90 day,72 hours rules) Other than not knowing what will happen,I've had no problems.

12 year perpetual tourist here.. :D And I've heard every year since I first arrived the big "change" that is coming. Now it is not even a concern, I don't get worried. When they get ready for me to leave, I am ready for Nicaragua, Panama City or Medellin.

I don't understand most of this post, but all of my friends under 50 think Panama sucks to live in... but good riddance to the perverted old gringos on a pension. Nobody will really miss you guys (somebody had to say it).

The percentage of CRT members who have residency is very low mainly because it really just affects those of us who live here.

The clowns just wanna keep pushing people out. http://www.insidecostarica.com/dailynews/2011/october/08/costarica11100801.htm Phuck em, they will only get their money from Johnny do good. Smart people will figure a way around it. Don't want to offend the guys that own CR inc. stock, but they really do some phucked up things. That's why it is good to fly below the radar.. :D

Believe and post what you wish, TW, but CR has one of the most liberal policies in the world as regards residency - in few other countries can you leave for 72 hrs, then show up again and stay for 90 days - over and over again w/ no questions/hassles from immigration.

I might agree on other matters CR is certainly not run w/ Prussian efficiency, but when it comes to the subject at hand - I absolve them - if they wanted to "push people out" they would, b/c believe me, they know the deal w/ perpetual tourism and have made a decision (no crystal ball, but at least for now) to keep things the way they are.

If this bothers you, you know the alternative - apply for residency :) When guys say it "costs too much" (What $1000 - 1500??) I say how much does a forced trip every 90 days cost - few of these and you are dollars ahead; plus while they are deciding on your application, you don't have to leave.

I agree with what you say in principle Scuba. BUT, their lifeblood is with this money they are trying to push away. And most people you talk to don't really care. If they make it hard, the money will move.

Again, if they were so intent on "pushing the money away" why do they have such a liberal policy re perpetual tourism, which they have to be fully aware of its ramifications - again, residency is a solution, which you don't address :) The vast majority of countries do not have a policy anywhere close to CR's.

Candidly, some members to the contrary, I've found the issue of perpetual tourism, while interesting, really personally effects a very few CRT members vs the 18k or 20k reported CRT members.

And those with the largest ax to grind seem to resist permanent residency - just an observation based on having a brain and some intelligence and over 5 years of membership, and seven of reading the board :)
