Just an FYI On a recent trip 6 weeks ago, I traveled from the US to Costa Rica with my typical accompanyment of clothes on a hanger inside my carry on. Now my return home... Upon my return, I was stopped (pulled to the side) by "San Jose TSA" as my carry on was being scanned. They pulled my carry-on off the carousel and opened it up and explained to me that I could not continue on my journey with 4 wire hangars. My response "Oh Really!" and then the slightly aggravated dialogue began ... with the actual person viewing the screen giving me a stare down as I irritatedly asked the agent that pulled me to the side the obvious questions and gave a history lesson in that "I always travel with hangars and obviously I traveled here with them" ... I was clear minded enough not to be too much of a jackass as I knew that they could make the rest of my day really miserable ... The message I got in some version of spanglish was that I could not travel with "wire hangars". The result is that I had to stand to the side and take all the clothes I had off the hangars and smash them in my luggage ... LOL!!!! They then confiscated my hangars .... If I find a new wire statute in San Jose somewhere in the near future ... I'm calling the policia ...oops they were the policia I asked was this something new ... and he said Yes .... for some reason I didn't believe it, I dont think he believed it (I hadn't heard of any such thing) I openly made my comments directed to nobody and looked back at the screener who was still staring me down (by the way she was a cutie Del Rey worthy) ... so I continued on the way without my "Killer Hangars". Oh yeah, returned to San Jose 2 weeks ago and just for grins and giggles packed my "Killer Hangars" and as you would suspect ... I made it all the way to San Jose annnnnnd surprisingly I made it all the way home with them. Shocker!!! Not sure if I experienced overzealous security agents or if they are actually shaking down everyone with wire hangars ... but it was just irritating enough for me to give those who travel with "Killer Hangars" a heads up |

I hear you. Basically, most of the scanners are mouth breathers who have to amuse themselves in a boring job. A good bit of it has no rhyme or reason. And I think a lot of them were bullied as K*ds and now it is their chance to show their dominance. I have seen them be harsh with elderly ladies when the ladies didn't know what was going on. |

8ball wrote: What a total nut job - not to mention cunt - Joan Crawford must have been ![]() As a rule, I NEVER check luggage - almost never - but I do leaving San Jose to return home - why? Its the only airport I've been in whereby you can go through 3 - yep, you read right - separate security screenings - the normal one w/ the scanner, the one at the gate, and very likely, one on the jetway as you are boarding. Stuff you can bring on a US orirginating flight - like a lighter, cigar cutter, some liquids, an umbrella - you cannot carry aboard on a flight leaving from Costa Rica. |

Po-Po gave me the third degree about my Super Slinky guitar strings in my gig bag at SJO once. They didn't worry about the strings on the guitar, they just didn't want me to board with the sealed pack of new strings. I could probably make a garrote faster with my D string, than I ever could with a coat hanger, but wouldn't want to phuck up my tuning..so I guess I would use the hanger... ![]() |

these same shmucks also confiscated my security cable for my mac... been all around the world with it for several years - without incident. honestly i thought the guy was joking - thought maybe was wanting it for his own personal use later. the whole thing did become an ordeal when i walked away from the security area out to the front of the airport and dropped it down a storm drain (not realizing two agent were behind me). |

On a recent flight out of sjo, the tica tsa agent decided my bottle of gold bond was a threat to flight security. I would love to ask the fine security team to provide an actual policy that comprehensively list what is prohibited. |

A year or two ago they took my NEW razors out of my shaving kit. Not the old one on the handle just the new ones. I jokingly told the dude I was gonna give the pilot razor burn and dry shave him if they didnt give them back. He had no idea what I was talking about So I asked why they were not allowed and he said becuaes they are sharp. There was just no foolin this guy. I then said what about the knife and fork they are gonna give me 30 minutes into the flight? Will they be sharp? He said NO.... I walked away. |
