Live in the Chicago area and looking for a little bit of Costa Rica to bring back those pleasant memories? You might want to try this place. The sandwich looks like it might be a rival for the Philly cheese steak. http://youtu.be/PSV7j3WJrYM |

WARNING: Do not watch this vid if you are hungry--you are liable to salivate furiously and thus ruin your keyboard. Nice find, Brother Irish Drifter! As backfill, here's something on chicharron: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicharr%C3%B3n |

Chicharrones and chifrijo are available in sodas all over the country. Like every popular traditional food the quality differs from place to place. What I have never seen is the sandwich they prepare. Even if you could find here I do not think it would be as good as the one they serve at the Irazu restaurant because they use U.S. beef ![]() ![]() |

I had a Tica girlfriend/employee ![]() She also would use this restaurant to send money home. She came on a student Visa just before '9-11'. Lucky Timing. |

Gee you might even get a Packer fan from a resort town in southern Wisconsin to take the train down for a meal. Thanks for posting. |

Thanks for the link ID! I'm surprised that I never noticed this place before. I often eat at 90 Miles Cuban Cafe, which is 2 minutes away from Irazu. I stopped in after work today and ordered the Milanesa dinner with a Guanabana milkshake. The Milanesa was average, it came with rice & black beans, salad and maduros. The Milanesa served at Soda Peru is much better. The Guanabana milkshake was great, I highly recommend it! They didn't only bring the cuisine from CR, they brought the service too! It's actually slower, if you could imagine. Also, there's no parking lot, so you have to pay for parking on the street. It's not really a comfortable place to eat at, so next time I'll take it to go. |
