I just hate phones and so don't use them much. However, I'm beginning to establish a very part-time residence in CR, so it's phone time. I think this would be helpful for a lot of other folks too. This needs to be a real "phoning for idiots" type thing... Fill in the blanks let's say someone in CR gives me a number: 555-5555 1. How would I dial that from a landline in CR? (exact key sequence) if the called number is a mobile: landline: 2. How would I dial that from a mobile in CR? mobile: landline: 3. How would I dial that from a landline in the USA? mobile: landline: 4. How would I dial that from a mobile in the USA? mobile: landline: 5. How would I text that from a mobile in CR? mobile: 6. How would I text that from a mobile in the USA? mobile: SR 1. 5555-5555 (phone #'s are 8 digits in cr) 2. 5555-5555 3. 011-506-5555-5555 4. 011-506-5555-5555 5. 5555-5555 6. 011-506-5555-5555 I have unlimited intl texting with sprint for $10/month. Otherwise its like 25 cents per. To make intl phone calls from the us, I buy cheap phone cards online or at convenience stores. You dial an 800 number and get a passcode. |

The easy way in Costa Rice is to buy a cheap phone at one of the phone stores downtown SJ. They start at $40 to $50. Get a pre paid sim card and add 5000 colons to it. and out the door you are ready. With the pre paid card you don't pay for incoming calls. You can call the states for 25 cents a minute. Costa Rica calls are very cheap any where in the country. Only one area code 506. There is no monthly bill for this cell phone. You will have an 8 digit no. starting with an 8. You no longer need a land line. Land line numbers all start with a 2. I also have a Magic Jack with a USA phone number for $20 a year. Free unlimited free calls, you have to have a computer. I also have a contact for computer work in SJ. He is an American and very in expensive. SEAHAWK |

How would I text that from a mobile in the USA? mobile: Depending on the mobile phone/carrier, you might have to do the following for both calling and text instead of what 8ball mentioned: +506-5555-5555 To get the + sign, it is usually a long press (hold the 0 button for 2 seconds). |

The cheapest way to unlock is on eBay. It will be about $ 3.00. Do a search on unlocking cell phones, then find your model, order the code and it will be sent to you in less than 24 hours. I am a technical moron, well probably just a general moron, but I have unlocked three phones myself. You can also go to most cell phone repair stores and they will do it for $20-30. Sim cards, for the country you are in, are available at most airports in the world. health & happiness to all.................. |

Flyer199 wrote: how do i get my tmobile us phone unlocked, and where do i get a cr prepaid sim? thanks. I don't know about Tmobile, but with AT&T, I call their tech support and they give me the unlock code, no charge. When I was in San Jose last month, the phone kiosh in the baggage claim area had cell phones for sell. I think they were about $40 and included a whole bunch of minutes. You can buy a prepaid sim card there also, starting at $5. Just a reminder, the phone number will expire in 60 days after your last purchase of minutes. There is a way to purchase minutes on the internet to keep your number active, but I have never done that. |

I used to could take apart a rear "back pedaling" brake system on a bicycle, repair it and reassemble it. Now, it scares me to try to set up software I bought for my home computer. Just too much new info these days .

CR: GSM frequency is 1800 and 3g is 850. 3g is much better in CR because the coverage is far superior and u will have fewer dropped calls. I also suggest that u buy a phone with both 1800 and 850 frequencies since 3g is not available in remote areas. A Nokia model c2 is a great choice for the price. |

I use Tmobile. I phoned customer service and they asked me for my voice mail PIN to confirm it was me then they sent me an email the next day with the unlock code. All free. You can go to their web site and check the frequencies that your phone can use. You can also check the frequencies used in CR. Most probably your phone has the US and overseas frequencies. When you take your unlocked phone to CR buy a SIM card and put it in right there at the booth. The phone may take a few minutes to switch from the US frequencies and hunt for the CR frequencies. Do not let them tell you your phone needs to be unlocked and charge you a fee again |
