Gentelmen; Today, Nov. 5, 2004, the Tico Times reports that effective Oct.27th, tourists traveling in Costa Rica on a tourist visa (90 days) will no longer be required to carry the acctual passport on thier person while in Costa Rica. The US Embassy was able to convince Costa Rican authorities to make the change as passport is approaching 3 per day in Costa Rica. The change was anounced by Ama Chacon, Vice-Minister of Public Security. She mentioned in her press conferance that police in San Jose and Limon have already been retrained and she is in the process of instructing police countrywide.
THIS CHANGE IS OFFICIAL. YOU NO LONGER NEED TO CARRY YOUR ACTUAL PASSPORT WHEN YOU COME HERE. A COPY IS SUFFICIENT!
