Seems like 6 months ago you couldn't find a ticket for under $500 but now I am seeing a bunch at American's website for under $300 -at least today. But prices change like the stock market. We need a forum dedicated to sharing tips on cheap plane tickets. I got a tip on this site like a year ago that allowed me to get back 50K AA points that were expired! That's more than a free round trip!

Los Angeles To San Jose, Costa Rica $269*
Philadelphia To San Jose, Costa Rica $279*
Chicago O'Hare To San Jose, Costa Rica $284*

What you are seeing; (I was well established in the airline business)
is a desperate attempt by a few airline marketing guys who blew it.

They need to fill certain seats, in this case, quickly, before someone notices that it is not a viable route.

Being an airline marketing guy is 80% luck and 19% bullshit and 1% knowledge.
The brass balls guys get the paycheck, for however long it lasts.

The $417 dollar fare from Miami is a better reflection of reality, and the actual cost of making the trip.

That being said, keep shopping guys, because there will always be cut-throat competition.
In the airline business 2% is a great return.

Continental is just about the cheapest out of Newark. Goes for about $390 plus fees and taxes.
Once I got a deal for $189...
Since the airlines know we 'must' travel, they can set various prices at different times of the year.
Just like the oil companies, they got us by the balls!

4 Sep: Continental EWR to SJO, $586
5 Sep: Continental EWR to SJO, $690
12 Sep: Continental EWR to SJO, $740

It's CRAZY!!!!!

sorry no link went back to get it and it was gone off goggle news , but did find these on a quick search. Seems the airlines like making money more then they like have most flights/ planes and destinations

as of 20 minutes ago (Bloomberg) -- Delta Air Lines Inc. will shrink seating capacity in 2012 to cut operating costs, and American Airlines is joining an industry pullback in ...

It'd be nice if we had it out of Newark.
We're stuck with Continental/United, American, Copa out of JFK, Avianca, and maybe a couple of others.
But regardless of the airlines, prices keep rising higher and higher and the frequency of trips we can afford to take keep decreasing more and more.
