I have painful thumb and toe joints. Can I get cortisone injections for these at the neighborhood famacia or do I need to seek out a specialist?

Don't know. You can call Farmica Sucre and ask for Noel the DR-farmicist and she could answer. Speaks good english.
011-506-2248-9302 from the states. Also I am sure you could get the treatment at hospital Biblica or Sima. You can look them up on line. Both are private and US standard. They take credit cards also.

Not gout, xrays show worn out joints and spurs. I'll have them fixed sometime in the next year.

Go to a doctor and get professional help.

Been there, done that. Just want to repeat what he prescribed without paying the whole tariff again. I don't need a doctor to tell me what a doctor has already told me and to prescribe the same thing again. The best thing to do is to take about 65 years off my age but I've not figured that one out yet.

Ok green there is a drug called Voltarin.. It comes in table, Injection and cream . I would go to the pharmacy and get the injection and get the cream to use as needed. it is very good it has a little bit of steroid in it and it is very good in helping with joint pain.. it's a over the counter medication in CR... hope it helps....

I hear you Brother Green Giant. What may help long-term is surgical reconstruction. For that, contact brother Word Wiz--he runs http://www.healthtraveltours.com and is in contact with the the best Doctors at the best hospitals in Costa Rica. I plan to use him for some orthopedic issues I have, in April. Your health-care plan if you have one may pay most of the cost. My dad needed cortisone injections every USAF flight (he was a bombardier on bomber plans) but eventually it destroyed his knees--cortisone is a short-term solution at best. Your call, of course.

My right hand used to constantly be painful & sore from working the mouse/keyboard all day. I even learned to use the mouse with my left hand. Also my forearms would get sore.

Now I eat 2-3 Bananas every day and now I feel ZERO pain or soreness.

I can't emphasize enough how good these work for me.

But I am not a Doctor and even if I was a Doctor, I'd be a quack. Some STDs have arthritic symptoms so you may want to get checked.

Here's more on Brother JR60's mention--with one small caveat--it's not steroidal (at least not to the FDA):
http://www.drugs.com/voltaren.html << as always, read the contra-indicators and cautions, please.

Green Giant, I would go to Pharmacy Cumbrie which is 1 block up the road from LaAmistad and 2 blocks from SL. It is across the street from Hospital Calderon
