i heard /read about a robbery or some other issue at SL recently
anyone have info or is it being covered up-i tried a search but no results
If this had been the DR the bashers/haters would have been all over it
I do know that guests checked out of sl and into the dr
I also know that this could happen anywhere

It is already on a post, and we talked about that over a week ago.. Bill the owner even talked about it...not like the owner of the del rey that had a shooting about a year ago has never said anything about what happen there. Some of us not hate the del rey, we just like to be treated with respect and have nicer rooms , like at sportmens. .... If you need to know all they took was some computers and all customers were safe there. Bill took care of the whole thing..end of story..

Search this : Sportsmens Lodge Robbery. There is a 7 page thread. I am not aware of anyone leaving the hotel and checking into the DR. I would not and am not hesitating to stay there again. (shrimp must be good)
Hang on I dropped my knitting needle.

It was openly discussed in two threads and the owner of the SL even made several posts on it. It most certainly was not hushed up.

I was staying at La Amistad when this happened and was in the SL that same night (just a few hours prior). I went back to SL the next night with my fav and had a great time. The place was packed, so the guests certainly were not scared away, lol. The idiots at the local newspaper/internet rag.. whatever (AM Costa Rica), made an article and drew some faulty conclusions with no evidence.

Simple fact is, this sort of shit happens all the time in Costa Rica. Petty crime and robberies are a fact of life and something you just have to be aware of. It's usually not an issue unless you are doing something stupid, IMO. Most of the gringo businesses take a serious attitude in protecting their clients and even the local authorities would wake up and come down like a ton of bricks on anyone if a tourist was seriously hurt or killed.

I still feel safer in the Gulch then I do in many of the cities up here in Canada or the US.

tinman seems you took the question personally-not sorry i asked or phrased it like i did.
Orange-thanks for the link.I did type in sportsmans.
Guests leaving-2 coworkers were checking in at same time as supposedly 8 guests from the sl.All i can say is what they told me.
I know it can happen anywhere and that true sportsman is a good man and runs a good establishment.
Just wanted to find the thread.

I am not sure if you know this or not, but petty crime means nothing here in CR. Anything under $500 and they don't even think about doing anything about it. Even though what they took valued probably more than that, it is still petty crime. I have to agree that I feel safer here than walking around a lot of cities in the states.

Everything went back to business as usual the next day at the SL. So there is not reason to worry about this situation anymore.

the DR

Mike321 you have the right to be any thing you want to be. That said if you look at the crimes in any major US city the CR crime pales in comparison.
As a concrete example in the Bay Area in N. Ca. I would not even drive through cities like Richmond, Oakland and East Palo Alto and the thought of walking around there does not even occur to me.
