Hello all...I need some advice from any that may have done this in the past... I have a Remington Model 1100LT 20-gauge shotgun that was specially made for me back in the early '80s. It is a collectors item in addition to the sentimental value it has for me. I know there used to be a dove hunting operation here and know you can import shotguns like this for hunting purposes. My family is coming down and I'd like for them to bring it. Does anyone have any ideas on any paperwork you need to complete or how you can accomplish this?? Thanks in advance. |

Yo, Let me get the info from Goldberg. He brought two hand guns down legally. It was a little bit of running around but he got it done with no problems. You ahve to get a broker down here and pay the taxes and such. I will hit you up later to talk about it. the DR |

Good to hear; as a turista, I can't buy firearms down here. I have several handguns in the US and if I could bring one down here, i would. I kinda feel naked without a gun in the house. |

It is less expensive and a significantly less of a hassle to simply purchase a firearm in Costa Rica from a reputable dealer. There are several dealers in or near downtown and dealers in the two major malls: Multiplaza in Escazu and Mall del Este in Zapote. If you factor in the taxes with the price of a firearm in CR it is only slightly more expensive than a firearm in the US. My 9mm cost about $450 USD in CR. The same weapon in the US with taxes was about $425 USD. Ammo on the other hand is much more expensive. You can bring in a couple of boxes of ammo each time to arrive. You have to declare the ammo when you check-in. They will label your luggage LIVE AMMO which is an invitation to airport baggage handlers “Please steal from this suitcase.†Therefore, if you don’t already, you should ensure that you have the little TSA locks on your bags. It won’t prevent theft but it will help keep the honest people honest.
