Channel scramble strikes again. WB is now 164, CNN is 771 (I think...).

Good luck...

Might depend on where you live. I still have CNN on 391 and CNNHN on 392. Nothing on 771.

Amnet must have some new service offerings in San Jose.... in little ol' Guanacaste they still only offer analog cable (although adverstise that they have digital cable) with about 75 channels in total.

Best thing about Amnet is their internet and the fact that they are a subscribing ISP to ESPN3.com so you can use this website to watch almost any college football or basketball game for free.

Major channel shake up. In the usual Amnet way of doing business they changed the channel lineup on the first of the month. On or about the tenth of the month you may or may not get a new lineup card with your monthly bill. In the mean time happy trying to find the channel you want.

As a bonus they threw in you can no longer get the analog channels if your TV is hooked up to the digital box. :(

Does Amnet or anyone else offer service with a DVR? I had one in the US and I miss it. Not that I can't live without it but if they have one I want one.

An Amnet technician told me they do. Check with customer service 2210-2920.

Amnet does offer a DVR, call them and they will deliver and set it up. I have found service very good and quick. I have had a technician the next day after my call. I get a lot of channels, very clear, and you have a TV guide to look up the channels. I have no complaints about their service.

Ok good. I have a local I hired looking for an apartment for me. Main reason I did so is I'm tired of getting quoted what I suspect to be "gringo prices". With my next apartment, I'm going to negotiate if they offer free cable. I want to set up my own cable, as I want Amnet with a DVR.

Not trying to highjack the thread, but does anyone know if Dish Network or DirectTv will work in Costa Rica or Panama?

Dish network is available. However there are a few qualifiers you need a dish at least 2.5 meters and preferably 2.8. You need a U.S. address and credit card for billing purposes.

FTA (Free Thru Air) requires the same dish size and an FTA receiver that can unscramble nagra3 encryption.

There are two or three people offering the installation and service. Figure about 2k for equipment and install. Any bar that has sports from the U.S. can give you names of a supplier.

Ah ha! The TV in the bedroom is "basic cable", no box, gets all the old channels.

Livingroom TV on a digital box only receives digital signals which means I am forced to search all over for the channels that used to be next to each other.

Pacman.....check out my post, on this section, for digital listings. It should get you to most of the digital channels that we watch. You are correct that your TV in the bedroom will have the analog listings as before, so long as you don't have a box there.

When I first started reading this thread, I wondered why anyone there would put up with the standard crappy customer service of the cable company. I have DirectTv and would never go back to cable, and then only for Internet. A price tag of 2k for a satellite dish in CR is cost prohibitive. The necessity of a 2.8 meter dish would also eliminate any apartment installations.

I have a friend in Panama who asked me to bring him a DirectTv kit on my next trip. I guess I will have to give him the bad news. Thanks for the info ID.

From what I have been told DirectTV/Dish is almost impossible to receive in Panama. The satellite is in geosynchronous orbit over roughly the equator. While this would make it sound that the closer you are to the equator the easier and better the reception the opposite is true. The signal is aimed to the U.S. so it is the distance from the U.S. that determines the size of the dish necessary and the strength of the signal.
