Post subject:  New â‚¡1,000 bill - Already a Collectible!
If you received the new â‚¡1,000 bill, it's already a collectible.

Government of Costa Rica plans to withdraw that particular bill from circulation. Apparently nobody from Treasury noticed that the bill says "Estado de Costa Rica", instead of "República de Costa Rica".

Only in Costa Rica!!

The way I read it, it wasn't a mistake, but it has been criticized. The reason it says "Estado" was to honor Braulio who got Costa Rica as sovereign country, independent from the Federal Republic of Central America when he was the head of state (Estado) of Costa Rica. Thus it was a reproduction of that era, not a mistake. Right?

It also says it is not going to withdraw it because of the criticism.

These new 1000 and 2000col. notes are AWFUL. I do not carry a wallet,and fold my money and put it in my pocket. The old money folds nicely there,like most all other currencies. The shitty new stuff just floats around and sometimes falls out when I try to get the money out of my pocket.The problem is that the new stuff is smaller than the rest (5000, 10,000 and 20,000 colones will stay the same). The coating on the bills makes them slippery and more likely to fall out. Oh well I still love CR.

VB, I put the same post when the new bills came out. Of coarse DING DONG had to slam, like always, me. The bills are shitt It might be smart to use the 500 coins or carry a small billfold. I have not carried one in my 11 years I have been here. I don't like a bulge in my pocket. Looks like we will have to live in shitt, this CR terrible mistake. What do you think the bills will look like in a couple of years?

Inside Costa Rica had an article stating the Central Banks reasoning behind the use of "State of Costa Rica". It basically is a English translation of the www.prensalibre.cr article.

On both occasions he was prevented from completing his term of office by military coups.

During his first administration, on 31 August 1848, he formally declared Costa Rica an independent republic, definitively severing Costa Rica's ties to the moribund Federal Republic of Central America.
