| Post subject: | Travel Insurance Recommendations. |
SO looking for some travelers insurance, and wondering who has some recommendations. I am reading all these horror stories about companies not wanting to pay for canceled flights, lost bags, etc.. Who buys it, and from whom. Also have any of you actually used i before? I just need some recommendations. Thanks. R |

http://www.travelguard.com/ can be quite competitive. It does afford some manner of peace of mind, to an extent, relative to the air ambulance back to the USA, blah, blah, blah. The luggage aspect is nice: One trip, one piece of electronic gear decided to fall of the bench. Busted circuit board. The luggage insurance aspect of TravelGuard paid 100% of the repair. I was square business with what happened too, as in I did not fib, and it was still covered. (luggage to them is anything, pretty much) *shrug* Toxicware wrote: I'm not, but thanks for replying.

Before the recession bit a couple years ago, I was looking into this too. I haven't been able to travel internationally since then, so I never followed up. I remember that I was looking into something that would cover local emergency medical care internationally over a period of time. For example, if I came down with malaria or broke an arm or leg it could be treated at a hospital like Clinica Biblica. I wanted something that I could buy every six months or year and would cover unlimited trips for that period. I think that Lloyds of London among others had reasonable prices for this type of coverage. It was much cheaper if you bought it for a very short period of time like a week's vacation. Many credit cards like Amex will cover the Air Ambulance home or the transportation of your (dead) body home as part of their standard coverage if you buy your airline ticket with that card. |

My wing man and I purchased travel insur. from AA,( American Airlines,) for our trip in March, Access America, for 28$, we both got food poisoning I still flew out on time he was too sick and had to stay, he filed a claim with AcAmer. and submitted a form they fax to him at the Amisad. He submitted a notorized Dr.s form, Dr Sanchez, which the Dr charge $40 . They sent him another 3 forms and requested the orginal form from the Dr, which was already submitted. Interesting was in the Travel Section of the Sun-Sentinel , travel advisor help line, were 2 articles, 2 weeks in a row March, about Access America claims Denials. Bottom line the advisor suggested useing Insuremytrip.com and another site. I'm at that point in my life where in caution I will purchase travel Medical and Evacuation insur. I don't think my friend will see a nickel from it. Flaco in Ft. Lauderdale |

I ran into a crt member at the airport that had to extend his trip for a hospital stay. Not sure what happened and hope he'll post the story but he did say that he was lucky he had purchased travel insurance. Between his story and what recently happened to Pops it makes one rethink this option. |

They have both one-trip and year-long coverage, starting at 25 bucks. mh |

Since this thread came back alive, just an update regarding my wing man and "Access America" it was in March of this year we became sick from food poisoning. He filled a claim , jumped through the hoops , so far, NADA, Nothing . The claim was for 250.00 He got the run around, just gave up in July , wrote it off. Its was the insurance offered while buying Tickets on American Airlines. So beware. Any body have any recommendations.? |
