I´m currently living in Costa Rica and I want to make a weekend trip or 2 or 10 for some fun  I remember reading that there was a holiday period of like a week where the chances of finding anything is slim to none. Does anyone remember when that is? I don´t want to spend the money and head somewhere only to find out that.. oops.. noone is there...

Easter week, Semana Santa in Spanish, is the week you want to avoid. This year it is from April 18 to 24. Week between Christmas and New Years is not as bad but is still not a great time to visit.

Do you mean in Costa Rica? Then you already should know about Semana Santa (Holy Week), the period leading uo to Easter Sunday, which this year is April 24th. Holy Thursday and Good Friday are official CR holidays, and the country pretty much shuts down then.

Don't know how it is in other Latin American countries, but to be safe go to Southeast Asia if you want to go then. :D

Yeah, but I´m fairly busy with work most days. So most days its just wake up, work, go home, sleep, and repeat. I get weekends off so and I wanna spend them having fun..

Not to mention, I´ve only been here for a week. My company only gave me a month notice on me coming down here, and I spent a large majority of that time finding an apartment and setting up business back in the States...

Easter week, (the week before easter) is when san jose shuts down, and everyone in costa rica goes to the beach, as another poster had mentioned.

However, semanana santa is a holiday all throughout latin america, and thus prices are high, hotels and flights are either booked out or at very high prices.

I would honestly try to travel another weekend if I were you. If you are new to costa rica though, semena santa week is a great time to walk about san jose (in the day time), or drive about (again in the day time, as the traffic will be less than at any other time during the year.
