Experts feel free to chime in here. Financial Wizards!

I know now that US $20 is less than C10,00.00 colones about 9,500 or so. I am no mathematician. Quit Civil Engineering Major in college after attempting to complete Calculus three different semesters! What should I be using on this trip to pay for services provided? Colons or Dollars?

fitty

Actually, it's ¢9900. (No wonder you couldn't pass Calculus, you can't even do simple math. :P )

The rate is 494.50 which is basically 500:1. If you want to be precise, if chicas convert using 500:1, it would be better to pay in dollars, but not by much.

Let's say you negotiate for $60.

If you paid in 30K colones, you'd be paying $60.67. BIG SAVINGS paying in dollars, 67¢ difference.

This was a good savings opportunity in 2009 when the rate was almost 600. At 585, if you agreed to paying $60 and she accepted 30K, you were really paying $51.28, almost 15% less. Most chicas didn't know any better and just went with it, the smarter (more hardened?) ones, would call you out on it.

That must have been the sell rate, not the buy rate. That was the rate to buy back $1. You had to pay ¢530 to get $1.

You must not know the HDR very well. They aren't in the business of giving money away. They charge guys $11 to use the elevator.
