I know now that US $20 is less than C10,00.00 colones about 9,500 or so.
Actually, it's ¢9900.
(No wonder you couldn't pass Calculus, you can't even do simple math.
)The rate is 494.50 which is basically 500:1. If you want to be precise, if chicas convert using 500:1, it would be better to pay in dollars, but not by much.
Let's say you negotiate for $60.
If you paid in 30K colones, you'd be paying $60.67. BIG SAVINGS paying in dollars, 67¢ difference.
This was a good savings opportunity in 2009 when the rate was almost 600. At 585, if you agreed to paying $60 and she accepted 30K, you were really paying $51.28, almost 15% less. Most chicas didn't know any better and just went with it, the smarter (more hardened?) ones, would call you out on it.
