As others have noted, Rick's Cafe Americano @ the Dunn Inn got off to a rousing start this weekend but now that's in the record books so what now? Well, it's 5PM on a Monday and I'm counting 10 Chicas ( 4 stunners in pairs and 2 tables of 3, 1 being of all-natural solid performers) and 12 Gringos--pretty solid odds for us horndogs. A whole day of adventuring can wear a body out so come on down, grab a brew and maybe find a Chica to relax with or jump into poker or blackjack The DI and the SL are the new Axis of Pleasure--check it out.

Thanks for the update, sounds like it's well worth a visit. I hope to be back in 2 weeks and will make it a point to stop by. Keep us posted as to what it's like around 8-9.

Coming in on the 24th. Will definitely check it out. How was the Super Bowl party? I guess everyone is still hung over. Haven't seen a post yet from anyone.

I enjoyed Rick's ...what I liked .....tv's are nice and set up for good viewing if waqtching more than 1 game (on sunday magic and boston were playing but not on the any tv's) bk was running the poker game but someone else needs to be in charge ....
Tables are nice and good set up if you bring a date, music (live) was good ....Blackjack table and game was good ...dealers made for a good game ....Bk tuna as a host - he will answer and try to take care of anything you need ( we had a problem with the surrender rule when playing BJ and he came right in and took care of it. Chili was very good, Barstaff were nice and fast ...were trained well and were ready for a busy night

What I didn't care for ... the prices for food are worse than the states .....$5.00 for 1 bowl of chili ...$9.50 for a club sandwich .....(both are the items I had .....chili very good ....club sandwich not so much ...cold fries and the club had melted cheese and pickles on it ) the price on food is getting out of control there (not just at Ricks)

Set up for working girls ....since all or most of the tables are four tops or 2 top's ...many of the working girls that I seen were at a table for 4 ...so its wasn't that easy to approach them...you would be standing up when talking to them ...next to a table of non working coulples or friends ....and what I want is a easy area to get to them ...and at least on Friday it wasn't a easy call on which girls were working or not working ....the few that I know or have seen in the DR or sportmens were easy calls

If you are playing at the black jack table and you sit at first base or the next 2 seats expect to need to move every 10 mins or so as there in no room for the dealers or pitt people to pass you ...its the only path to the area behind the table

Someone mentioned about the window area that anyone can drive up and see in .....and that working girls might not go there as they are worried that a family member or a friend might be able to see them .....not really sure if any of them might think that way ....

Overall I liked the place .....won$400 playing Bj .....drinks were good service was good ....good looking staff .....seen a few working girls that I have not seen in a few years .....seen Jazzbo in rare form .....and overall had a good time

Chilimike,
I, like you, was disappointed at how high food prices were in San Jose. I think food costs are up everywhere but you still expect San Jose to be cheaper, but it isn't.

I was told that the working girls are instructed not to approach. However, they usually look your way and that is all it takes to get them to come over.

Unfortunately you are not going to find cheap prices at the locales that cater to gringos. There are however, inexpensive places to eat in the Valley. I had a 1300 colon lunch which featured Tilapia, 1650 at Vasconias, Plato ejecutivo @ 2200 & Olla de carne for 2400. Filling, and I save my pennies for SL burrito.

Yes, I learned early on to eat at gringo-oriented establishments sparingly and to make good use of the tico-style sodas.

Good to hear the positive feedback. Let me put in a little I have learned in the last year or so about food prices. And believe me, I eat at Tico spots or cook at home 99% of the time. It is not the greedy restaurant owners. It is suppliers. I have several owners who I talk costs with regularly and have even been involved in some projects over the last year. Most restaurant owners anywhere you go try to run somewhere between 30-35% food costs. The suppliers are the ones with high prices here. It is frustrating. I don't get to eat out near as much as I did during the good years, 4 or so years ago.

Bowl of Terlingua Chili
Slow-cooked chili with beef, onions and chiles. Topped with... $4.99

Hmmm, the above Terlingua Chili is the price quoted from Chili's. And they contract beef purchases for over 1400 units

I thought the same thing at first. The food prices in the gringo joints are high, but they do include 23% taxes. Dividing the price by 1.23 gives you the pre-tax price.

Not all places show the price including service (10%) and sales tax (13%) as the menu price. Check it out first or you may be unpleasantly surprised when you get your bill.

+1 ID. Actually most of the places here at the beach list the before price. Quite a shock when the bill comes if you don't already know.
