Do we still have to NOT have 100 dollar bills that start with serial numbers/letters B or C? this was a while back. Thanks for a quick reply on this. aqua |

Still the same. Easier to bring 20's and 50's and not worry about it. |

I have never had a problem in 5 years. Maybe I have never had one of these but that's unlikely. As a matter of fact, I had 14 of the old bills in bad condition that I had planned to return to the USA but one day I took them to the bank inside PriceSmart and they exchanged all 14 without a question. But just to be sure, I guess it would be the most prudent thing not to bring them. |

Many merchants will not except $100 bills with the serial number starting CB. Banks will accept them. |

Not to bust stones but help me understand why someone would bring big currency to CR when ATMs in English are so readily available (HDR, INS Bldg). |

Can't imagine them charging these kind of fees. |

CB - B2 were the hundreds that were in question and not accepted, but i haven't had them turned down in a long time. actually, i had a fifty turned down at the SL front desk. I don't remember the series but there is a notice posted behind the desk (or used to be). |

More importantly: One day your sole ATM card will not work, will walk away or your bank will screw up. I enter foreign countries 15 - 40 times a year. I ALWAYS have adequate cash (100s) and usually use my ATM card. Heard a gazillion issues from other travelers & have seen a few in serious problems because they didn't have a back-up plan. BTW - when in Colombia and a few other L.A. countries remember that after you get your cash you also have to log off or the next guy can simply ask for more cash from YOUR account. (think in Honduras also....) /dddick |
