Arriving on the late Spirit flight, does anyone know if the Duty Free shop in baggage claim is open at 1 am?

I've arrived around that time and it is closed. I arrived after 10 PM on Saturday, and it was open. If you are coming downtown or going to a hotel, don't worry about having colones. Exchange them at a casino or hotel and most likely you will get a good rate. Cabbies, including the airport cabbies, will accept dollars. Exchange rates are about 500 colones to the dollar.

In January I picked up a bottle of Crown Royal in the duty free in San Jose for $17.00 dollars .

It seemed like just too good of a bargain to pass up.

I noticed the same bottle today at Mas x Menos for $37.28. That is quite a difference.

Wow. On the way in, I picked up a few bottles of Jose Cuervo 1 liter for a friend at 14 dollars a bottle. These same bottles cost 30 dollars each at PriceSmart.

You can buy up to 12 bottles  . The duty free is downstairs next to the luggage carousal. So if your waiting for your luggage, then this is a no brainer.

Hey, a penny saved for me is 1.50 pennies earned pre tax !
