Is March a busy time of year to travel to Costa Rica? Any days to avoid and how far advance does everyone book their hotel?

Yup, it's still the high season, so try to avoid spring break travel periods. Easter is in late April for 2011, so you don't have to worry about that at least.

Maybe February would be better then. Spring break varies among schools in March.

February is the peak of the high season, no relief there. :D Try to leave and return mid-week if you can, unless you can only do a weekend trip.

Thanks, just as long as the high season doesn't mean the high season for many men in the bars, too.

I like late March because of College BB -- good games on the TV every day, a few losing bets, good guys to hang with, and ladies around to party with, life is good

The CR universities return to classes at the end of February, it's the end of the Costa Rican summer, so in March you have fewer local travelers. I've gotten my cheapest airfares to CR during the, "high season". As for lodging, most advertise the higher rates, but we did get low season rates at Tangeria in Jaco last year due to the economic times.
