I was reading an article the other day which discussed the weather and peoples appearance. The author suggested that cities like Miami and Los Angeles have a larger proportion of attractive women due to the climate. He reasoned that warmer weather means less clothing and the peer pressure of looking good translates into women watching their diet and working out. I had never really given this much thought before.

I know here in Canada, where the weather reaches -35, it has an impact on our lifestyle. It is very common here for the ladies to have a summer and a winter body. Once May comes around the ladies start to get worried and start dieting and hitting the gym. If the authors theory is correct it might explain why the chicas in the warmer climates seem to be more fit than the ladies back home. Does the hotter the weather mean the hotter the chica? Anyone else observe a correlation?

I think in Latin America it's two main things. 1. The food is much more organic. 2. People walk a lot more. Both times I live down South I lost weight even though I ate like crazy and never went to any gyms. Walked all over the place. But to look at LA and Miami, both of these places are the most superficial and vain laden places I have ever been.

I think the story is right on. I lived in south Florida for 20 years. You always wear light clothes and the peer pressure is always there to look decent. This is only along the coast. Once you move inland a few miles, you see some of the most disgusting humans on earth

Yeah, also the big city attracts good looking women and male bimbos(Mimbos) as they suddenly realize that they are bigger than whatever podunk they came from. Bottom-line add to that, the desire to be near the beach with beach like weather year around and you have the whole beach / party life like in Rio, Miami, South of France etc.

I've also read that the socio-economic and educational level of the city makes a big difference. Richer and more educated = more time in the gym and a healthier diet.

So then what's up with all the fat Americans that have money? They can have 24/7 access to the gym, thier still gonna be fat :|

For women (I feel) that its assumed pretty girls will be around. Being more so in compettition with each other; is what makes many beautiful women around..

Here's where I got the information. It only refers to U.S. cities, but it seems reasonable that the same conclusions would apply internationally. I'm also assuming a correlation between "fitness" and "attraciveness."
http://www.creativeclass.com/creative_class/2010/06/11/what-makes-cities-fit/

Quote:
Climate and Temperature: Most people would think fitness levels are higher in warm, sunnier places, and lower in cold places. But that’s not what we find, at all, when we examine the association between metro fitness and various measures of climate and temperature.

First and foremost, we find no correlation between fitness and cold locations, measured as mean January temperature. We also find no correlation between fitness and the January to July temperature difference. We do, however, find a significant correlation between fitness and the hottest places, measured as mean July temperature: But it is negative (-.52), meaning places that get really hot in July have lower levels of fitness on average.

Quote:
Income, Wages, and Output: Now, let’s look at the relationship between fitness levels and economic development. It stands to reason that more affluent regions where residents have more resources to devote to health and fitness would score better. And, not surprisingly, that is what we find. We find a significant but moderate relationship between metro-level fitness and economic output per capita (.35), and between it and income (.41), and a somewhat higher association between fitness and metropolitan wages (.54).

Quote:
Human Capital: Metros with more highly educated populations have higher levels of fitness, again not surprisingly. The correlation between fitness and human capital (measured as the percentage of adults with a bachelor’s degree or higher, .66) is the strongest of any of the variables we looked at.

Washington, D.C. came in as the most fit city in the U.S. Having lived there for many years, I'd say that it had a lot of attractive women...unfortunately, the outer attractiveness didn't always come along with the inner attractiveness that makes for a truly sexy woman.

WHAT????? Burritos..Tacos and Enchiladas are ORGANIC.  I dunno man....Seems like women..in general...be they Latina or anything else seem to "lose it" or "peak" after their mid to late twenties. Younger than that I'll take Latina over any other type because not only are they HOTTER in most cases but it's their sweet and loving disposition that adds so much more to their physical beauty as opposed to caucasian girls who tend to be a lot more "bitchy" and have "attitude".

I think they are looking at too big a sampling...averaging the "never go outs" with the "out every days". Girls who live near the beach and go out are in better shape than girls who hang in the cabina eating bonn-bonns.

I was raised on the east coast (Jersey), spent a few years in the midwest (Madison/Milwaukee), and wound up in South Florida for more than 25 years now. My sis has lived in San Fran for 30 years, where I've also spent some time. With the exception of Virginia and the Carolinas, both the east and west coast states are generally more liberal than interior states. Madison and Milwaukee are not representative of the interior because those cities, especially Madison, are also liberal. In addition to defining an ideology, liberalism may just play into differences in women's appearance.

Frankly, I can't imagine living in some states I have only seen on TV and never visited. However, my brother lives in southern Indiana, so I do have a point of reference. Perhaps there are some real beauties there, but I didn't see them on my visits throughout the years. I'm not suggesting there aren't weight issues in Miami, especially in the black community. I see very obese women (and girls) on the train every day while going to work. But at least it's balanced out here - as well as New York and San Francisco - with some extraordinary women. In the area of Indiana I visited, there were no such women to offset. Beach and climate play a role in better bodies, but I would argue the numbers of lookers living in liberal coastal cities is not an accident.

Liberal women tend to be less inhibited sexually, less religious, and vain.

Right on....

Maybe your used to seeing that kind of diet in Chicanolandia but I did not see those above mentioned food items much at all when I lived in CR and Colombia. The daily diet mostly consisted of fresh fruit, vegetables and meats that were not injected with hormones like we have stateside. Also you only mentioned one part of my post. Easier to get your jollies sniping at someone by only using part of what they wrote in their post. That's weak and pathetic BT. I thought you knew better.

I don't think so. India is hot, but have you seen their women?

Also (and I'm not as judgemental about skinniness as most guys) but there are a lot of fat Latinas, mostly in Mexico... dunno what's up with that. S. America seems to have a lot less.

Also, most people still seem to find Northern European looking women as the most attractive on average, although I'm happy to say I disagree.
