When did or does the dry season start. Is this from the system that hit Haiti? Is this area of Escazu close to the newly developed areas near were the condominiums are being constructed or the outer fringes of the canton?

Laandslide kills 17, crushes homes in Escazú By the A.M. Costa Rica staff posted at 1:05 p.m. In Escazú 17 persons died early today in Calle Lajas, Barrio El Carmen as a result of a landslide provoked by the rainy weather. The Cruz Roja said that there were 27 homes affected, 12 of them destroyed and that 16 bodies have been recovered. The slide took place at what is know as Cerro Chaparral. The Judicial Investigating Organization said the dead were eight women, five men and four Ch*ldren. |

Thats horrible. Yesterday I was thinking about posting about the rain . Here in Sabana Sur it rained all day and then about 8 in the evening it was raining sideways against the windows. I'm used to all the rain here but I did notice the heavy amount for one day. |

That's terrible. No hurricanes in Costa Rica, but the fallout (rainstorms) can get downright vicious. |

The government declared the country in red alert, the highest level. Ms Chinchilla said the government has 7 billion colones (14 million dollars) available for relief efforts. The San Antonio area received 6.3 inches (16.1 cms) of rain in just two hours on Wednesday, according to Costa Rica's Meteorological Institute. Many roads are flooded or blocked by landslides across Costa Rica, and schools nationwide remain closed. At least 200 homes were underwater in Parrita, a town in the central Pacific region, which received more than 13 inches of rain (33.5 cms) on Wednesday. A bridge leading into the town was destroyed.
