Curious about the economy and how it has affected travel in particular for us and CR..

I'm curious to know if people are still mongering harder than ever or have people felt pinch in the wallet and slowed down or just monger locally?

I've recently discovered CR and just returned from my first trip... Will be back for the last week in October... May try to squeeze another trip in before the end of the year if I have to cancel my PI trip in November... Work screwed my usual December in Thailand...

Not feeling the economic pinch at all...

I was a zero debt/zero bills/$900 month pretax retirement auto deposit/ 11.5% employer retirement/ left me with $800 per check ( after weekly allowance gas/food/stuff) so when I took a 10% lay off days, I was well set to take the hit and still party like a rock star, well for up in the boon docks that is.

Will take a extra 10% hit in 2011/12 ( total 20% off full) and still be able to travel.. paying off every asap thing and cars as cheapest transportation possible only, ( sorry Srilm, a trip to pick up the car sure would have been fun )set me up to weather this out till retirement day in 2013.

Where's the option for not being able to afford a single trip this year?

Since I work for a law firm that specializes in civil litigation, I've been mongering more than ever over the last 3 years.

I've often thought that a Masters student of Economics could write his thesis on the price elasticity of demand for P4P pu*sy, and get published. Besides SEA, I can think of no better laboratory to study this than SJO.

As far as the current economic environment...its tough all around, but having recently come out of a divorce (and still celebrating), it hasn't slowed me down one bit. :D

Live here but go back to the states to keep the income flowing. Find that I have to stay longer in US to make the same amount of money I made four years ago.

Stable Postal employment means I'm in a position to pay no mind to economic ups and downs. I'll make 3 trips this year, the principal object being dental work, deepening/ renewing/making friendships with CRT Brothers, having Janette's skillful hands working the kinks out and otherwise lollygagging about (KL at nights are a MUST). I don't mean this to be hurtful to Brothers who are scuffling in these dreadful times--my heart truly goes out to them.

I am pretty frustrated. I have the financial means, but am somewhat physically challenged at the moment. If and when I recover, I will be down in a flash.

it's interesting from the poll results that so far the winner is mongering just as much regardless of economy.. :P which is great to hear for those of us fortunate enough to continue to fly to CR.

This poll is obviously skewed. Due to the fact its a CRT poll. The voters are most likely members if not lifetime members of the CRT fraternity.

Im sure this economic situation has affected many planning a 1st visits ever to CR, but that will be a separate poll altogether.

I have always heard that the so-called "sin market" does well during economic downturns. People are going to drink, smoke, gamble, etc. regardless because it makes them feel good. That's even more important when things are bad.

As far as the actual mongering part, as well as everything else once you're actually in the country, it's pretty cheap. I actually save money in CR by going out drinking and eating there vs. my food/drink bill when I'm at home. And although I usually don't, there are plenty of hotels there where I could pay less than my rent here. If it weren't for those $500 plane tickets that some of us have to buy, and the need to physically show up for work sometimes, CR would be swarmed by the members of this board.

Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it. 8)

Never use your sick for being sick, thats why there are work days, if I am going to feel bad I see no reaosn why I should not share this joy with my fellow co-workers.Never used one hour in over 29 years of presnt job Fishing or hunting are what sick days are for-- I have over 3800 hOURS of sick leave coming to me, with ANTHER 920 DEFFERED VACTION, so right now it take them over 2 1/2 years to lay me off ( I earn more hours wile on sick or vacation time).

I am typeing this on the 14th floor of Mayo right now, waiting for a provider to show up for some fun before my doc apt.
