I was at the happy hour on friday night and bunch of big guys walked in with camera cases and one of them had a handheld camcorder. One guy had a digital camera and then there was this one dude that looked like Billy Bob Thornton wearing a cowboy hat and he was snapping pictures in the bar. The BM security guard really didn't tell them to stop or leave. Now I'm single, but I don't want my face to show up on some CR sex tv show. Guys, keep on the lookout for those cameras in case you need to hide for a moment. |

You mean the story of Dan Rather hopping a train in Tapachula to report on the illegals using the train as entry into US? Big deal. However, those are just tourists, it's the hidden cameras you'll never see to worry about. |

must be some change of heart re cameras in the del rey. because one afternoon all I did was take my digital camera out of my pocket to show someone some pictures I took at the beach and security was immediately on my @ss telling me not to take pictures....yeah, like I was going to... sorry buddy, but any first post re news stories like that one smells like trolling to me... |

I must agree with V Bob. I did not see the 6o min expose but with 1300 members someone else should be able to verify this potentially damaging report. Like several others have stated, I also would not want to be shown in a foreign (or non foreign) sex espose even though I am not married. A report like that could change your life and not for the better. I am a business owner and have a family and 4 hours ago was having communion at church(which I need). It would be a real nightmare to find myself suddenly and without my knowledge shown on 60 minutes. And personal harm is not the only danger. If enough of these reports like this one if its true and like the one last summer about the guys from Detroit were to air and show Americans, Canadians, Englishmen ect in CR whorehouses it could easily lead to our respective governments pressuring the CR government to do something about it. Considering that CR is a small and poor country it probably would not take much in additional economic aid or on the other hand withholding already present aid to make a big dent in our world of decadence. The "Bruce Harrisses" of the world could claim a major victory. It may be that the Detroit scandal let the cat out of the bag and that we are in for more , possibly a lot more reports of this nature. So what do we do now? Be paranoid in the DR, wear wigs and fake mustaches, or find another destination. Another thing to think about is the ease of reading sites such as this and having some reporter find a treasure trove of info about CR here. After all, I just stumbled across this site by accident and my life has not been the same since. Whether or not this present 60 mins piece is true or not another one will appear in the media somewhere shortly and my thinking is of what we can do about it ,, if anything other than being careful talking to anybody we dont know in the BM, even the CRT brothers could be easily infiltrated for $36.00, and hitting the floor the next time we see a camera in the BM. Personally I've inquired about finding a makeup artist for hire, where is we would all then be fashioned with a full beard various other facial features, a copy of clothing...along with mini vodka bottles and our own warm piece of the sidewalk with moveable accomodations cardboard box.. This would not only insure we wouldn't be photographed and recognized but would also insure NON OF US GOT LAID!!!!!! Circus my brother I love ya man... just couldn't resist... |

Junkyard Dog: You are sharing my sentiments exactly. The media has no original idea. Once somebody breaks a story....or thinks they have a hot story for the sweeps rating periods....the others will follow. Remember a few years ago somebody reported that Killer Bees were infiltrating the Southwest....migrating northward. Soon, all of the USA would be fighting off horrible bee sting attacks? It never happened, and was not true....but that did not stop countless of local TV stations from doing a nice series of reports...."Killer Bees....coming to Pocatello....Details on Channel 13 News at 5...6...10..and 11!" We have to face it....Sex Sells. The TV reporters love to go to CR with a camera crew...shoot that grainy "hidden camera" stuff...and report how horrible it is that Men are paying for Sex in CR...and always throw in the und***ge stuff as if it is RAMPANT. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story....right Dan Rather? There is only one thing we can do about it. Start e-mailing the newsrooms about what is going on in Thailand. Get their eye off the ball. Sort of like throwing a juicy steak over the fence, to get the Junkyard Dog to run after it....(sorry JD...no pun intended). I've decided to remove the banner from my sigline, not because of the message, but because it was so damn big. For any of those that missed it, it was a picture of a childs eyes with the caption "I'm not a tourist attraction" and a web address for http://www.stopchildtourism.org. I don't think the message applies to 99.9% percent of the guys here, but you never know who browses by here (non-registered) and it sends the message to THOSE types of sex tourists, that not only is that not what we're about here but that it is definitely not welcomed here either. I was also slightly heartened to see the name of the website was what it was and not stopsextourism.org or something. Maybe, unlike news orgs like CBS's 60 minutes, Fox News or foundations lika Casa, they can distinguish between those who engage in consensual adult sex in foreign countries from Ch*ld sex tourists (but maybe not). These groups like to trumpet the ECPAT estimates that over 2 million Ch*ldren are commercially sexually exploited worldwide and that 25% of Ch*ld sex tourists are from the US (and as many as 80% of Ch*ld sex tourists in Costa Rica). What is less clear is how much of that exploitation is by tourists and how much by locals (who in many cases ignorantly believe sex with younger partners is somehow less risky for HIV). Or what percentage of sex tourists are also pedophiles. I suspect pedophilia is not much more prevalent among sex tourists than it is among the general population, in other words it is the exception rather than the rule and its just a handful of deviants that are doing 90% of the deeds. I fear that some people get confused and think that saying 25% of Ch*ld sex tourists are american somehow infers that 25% of all sex tourists are pedophiles, or some other similar non sequitor. The logic simply doesn't follow. Anyway, the sign Joe saw is part of a recent and significant joint campaign against Ch*ld abuse by government agencies including the US Dept. of State and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency and private groups such as Worldvision. This campaign has progressed in stages over the past year or so, and it targets US citizens who travel to a few select countries in particular, including Costa Rica. The campaign involves a 3 part strategy. The first part is a targeted media campaign designed to deter or dissaude would-be Ch*ld sex tourists. This includes both pedophiles who travel for that express purpose as well as mainstream visitors who might be thinking of trying it (including probably "regular" sex tourists like ourselves). This part uses messages posted at U.S. airports, TV ads, billboards and street signs overseas, airline in-flight videos, magazines, the Internet and evidentally little placards in "monger" hotels like the Prez. The other parts are training local law enforcement (e.g. local crackdowns at places like NF) and when all else fails criminal enforcement by the US government (with penalties of up to 30 years in prison when you get back to the US, if the locals don't catch you first) |

I agree wholeheartedly with what Projilo just posted. While it it not our mission to educate the great unwashed masses, we must counter at every turn the suggestion that our hobby is that of the pedophile. More than 90% of all pedophiles are neither homosexual in nature, nor are they interested in normal sexual activities. In fact they are not into sex at all, but merely "power." Their victims are always seen by them to be the weaker ones. This accounts for the large percentage of pedophiles among priests, teachers, coaches, church leaders. They seek out those that look up to them as a symbol of what is right with our society and thus become victims to these abusers. Should anyone I ever meet in CR approach me with the intention of finding someone und***ge for sexual purposes I will immediately turn him in to the authorities, or perhaps on second thought, turn him over to some version of the CR mafia to have him dragged into transvestite" park at 2:00am to become the object of affection for a whole crew of "girls" who will give him a whole new outlook of what it means to be abused.
