I saw this movie recently and loved it. The movie reminds me a lot of a Pedro Almodovar movie, especially
Sobre Todo Mi Madre (All About My Mother). It is also similar in the regard that it is essentially a movie almost totally about women written and directed by a man, and he got it right. apparently.
In fact this movie goes to the same hilltop/park hangout of working girls that
All About My Mother used. The Puerto Ricana actress that you are referring to is Micaela Nevarez, her first movie, and she is so hot! Reminds me of many a DR (Del Ray) Queen, though she plays a DR in the movie (Dominican Republic). I'd pay cien for her! (OK, but for two hours). Tall, pretty, thin, C-cups, long black hair, what's not to like? The other main character really nails the depressive, desparate women down to a tee.
The movie, essentially a chick-flick, really captures the emotions of the the working girls, their vulnerable positions, especially for the immigrantes, the desparation to find a man despite the life, the dangers, the ringing CELL PHONES. The competition between the ladies is laid bare, especially between the regular chicas and the new immigrantes (sound familiar?).
Of course, there's not a single positive characterization of a client in the movie; they're all brutish or violent. OTOH, a pleasant, genteel client doesn't make for much drama, no?
Here are a couple of links to the movie and Micaela Nevarez.
