I spoke to a novia today and asked about the new highway to the coast. She tells me there's been alot of rain and it's closed. I was told that it was open. So what is it, closed or open? I was thinking about shooting over to the coast for a day on the 28th of Oct. but I wont do the hour and 45 or 2 hours. Anybody over there have the most recent information? Thanks, Jac |

It is impossible to predict what the situation will be tomorrow and you would need a crystal ball to even guess what the situation will be in late October. |

Is the highway you are asking about???? Damaged highway section still being repaired Quote: By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Highway officials hope to have the damaged section of the Interamericana Norte back in full service by Tuesday. The section is open to one-way traffic now. This is the site at Cerro Cambronero where heavy rains washed out a drain pipe and a large section of the road. Workmen installed a concrete drain system in place of the destroyed corrugated metal one, and highway officials put up a temporary bailey bridge over the gap. That temporary bridge was closed for a time earlier this week when rains undermined the places where the bridge was resting. MACO construction company workers are filling in the gap. The dirt and rock will be compacted and a new asphalt layer put down, highway officials have said. Meanwhile trucks are banned from the temporary bridge. Buses are being allow through, but cargo trucks have to take an alternate route. One of these is the Autopista del Sol between San José and Caldera. Repair work has been hampered by the heavy rains. |

No. The San Jose - Caldera pista and the Interamericana norte are two different roads. |

The greater question is--is there a Website or whatever that a Brother can access remotely that shows road conditions? We're a good source but not an instant or official source. Just asking... |

I put up some pics yesterday of the new highway (& Jaco and Manuel Antonio) in the Costa Rica & World scenery section. They were taken Sept 1st. |

The over under for the new highway is about an hour, from Jaco to Escazu, three tolls and one area where it is bottlenecked but other than that it's all good, just don't be riding dirty....... ![]() |

Jaco to San Jose was completely cut off as of this morning. A friend just talked to his wife and she said it is now passable on the old route. Looks like this could be an interesting month if the rain is what they suspect. |
