I'm down in San Jose right now, having a blast for the most part. I'm a youngun (25), and as such my game probably isn't up to par with the rest of you guys. So, a polite request for HELP from a newbie.. Here are the core elements of my last few encounters @ HDR & Key Largo: -chatting in spanish for 15 min, joking around for a while to develop some rapport. I have a good sense of humor and passable spanish, so this part always feels like its going well -the talk moves to sex.. I ask the chica 'how much for an hour?' -I counter the routine "$cien" answer with $40, expecting to land around $60 after negotiations finish. Econ 101 right? However, the girls seem to be really put off by that! One cursed and left immediately after, and the others didn't seem like they were willing to budge from $100, and thus my first 'low-ball' offer of $40 was extremely insulting. One one so far has accepted at $60, and she too seemed annoyed. What's going on here? Hell, I was under the impression that, if anything, $60 for an hour is pretty generous. Does this chica reaction happen to anyone else??? |

$60-$80 have been the going rates my last 5 trips(last one 3 weeks ago)Just keep doing what your doing there will be plenty of takers. $40 opening is to me a little low. |

Yep keep doing that..Minus the $40. I did 6 sessions in my 4 days in SJ and paid $70 for everyone. Some stayed longer than others. 4 sessions in MP's alot lower.. |

Your negotiation strategy is lacking a bit. I learned to negotiate years ago working in China. This strategy works wonders as well with chicas as anything else you purchase or rent. It did great for me in Beijing, Bangkok,Madrid,Toronto,Las Vegas, and all points in between. So here it is. Stage One- Rapport building. You seem to be doing well in this area. Speaking the local lingo helps alot. For those that don't. Be friendly, polite, etc. Compliment her as applicable. If you do not speak the lingo, carry a handy phrase book with you. Makes a great statement about yourself and chicas everywhere enjoy helping you with their language. Those that run away quickly were rateras anyway. So you can use this as a screening tool. Females are instinctive learners and teachers, so most worth spending time with will enjoy teaching you a few words. Stage Two-negocios So you learned how to say Hola, saw dee krup, or whatever the local phrase is. Now you want to session. So where to start? My hard core number one rule? NEVER,NEVER,EVER ask how much. Take cuanta questa out of your vocabulary. You know how much. You have done your homework on CRT, TJ Amigos, Pattaya Pages, etc. You knew how much you would spend before you set one toe in the bar. If not you should have. So you start with your negocios. Unlike with anything else, their is such a thing as going too low. Female ego is in play. So I start simply. As a side note I have slipped into the conversation before negotiating a brief discussion on what I like done and like to do. If you have any deal killers, make sure she is up for what you want to do. You say one simple line. For me it is "30k colones stabien por uno hora? Now you have set the bar. I always say it directly, fluidly without the least hesitation. And look into her eyes. It sets a strong position for yourself. this is where her ego comes into play. Say she suggests 45k colones. I will counter with 35k with a polite smile. Usually they will take this.95% will. Some may say cien anyway, those I politely say no gracias to. I will never go higher than 40k. Ever. The basic psychology is simple. You want a good value, she needs her ego intact and feel like she comes out ahead in the negotiation. This accomplishes that. Give her the opportunity she will always say cien. Why not ask for the moon? And when you are dragging prices from the cien she thinks she is worth, to say $60, feels like quite a blow and her ego gets a bit bruised. So do that everywhere you monger and you will be better off. |

Yep, seems like you did everything right, except that the $40 was too low to start with.. Try one time not making a counter offer. Very politely and sheepishly tell her you would love to go with her but that is out of your range. Chance are she will mention a number without you even countering. Should get you down to $70 or 80 with most... |

Many times I just tell them the $. Usually around $70 to $80 for a couple of hours (now you can do the $60 or $70 with tip stuff too). I tell them it is fair (very fair) and I do not negotiate. If they counter, the conversation is over, the games have already started. Some guys may want the $50 - $60 session and I think it is great. I feel for 2 hours and 2 leches, $80 is fair. Some may disagree and I will be selling popcorn during this thread ![]() Dean |

You say $60, she says $80. Agree on $70. Works for me. The DR is cheaper during the mornings and afternoons. $40-$60 |

Of course make sure you use only colones. The USD is not the currency of CR. |

When you offer $40, you have just insulted and demeaned her. Think about what you are doing. It is not an auction! If you had a car for sale and advertised it for $10,000, in your mind you don't expect to get that. If someone offered you $4,000, would you be insulted? Treat the ladies with respect and you will get a lot further. After talking with a lady for a bit, if I think she would be fun I'll compliment her about something and ask what is her lowest price to go to my hotel. If she answers with $80 or more, I'll politely tell her thanks but that's out of my price range. Many times she will ask what will I pay. I would never imagine offering $40. I usually offer $60. If she's someone I really want, I'll offer $70. If we can't agree on a price, I'll wish her well and move on. Hopefully you have not pulled your $40 trick on too many, because they do communicate with each other and you could be marked. Remember RESPECT. |

Countering a request of $100 with an offer of $40 is an insult to the ladies... This after you have wasted however much of their time thinking they have a live one on the hook... I'm surprised all they did was curse you and walk off... Remember, these are working girls trying to make a living and support their families... Perhaps a bit more research into the going rates would have been a good idea prior to manning the ramparts... |

Great post / response / advice by MrLasVegas - agree 100% In all of my experiences here I have NEVER asked ¿cuánto cuesta? When she finally gets around to wanting to discuss biz I always reply that I am only interested in her if she is not preoccupied with time....it has worked for me very well over the years including many TLN's (and such) and I am NOT any type of over-payer. Good luck and keep reading the board EdB |

They do not like to barter. You are better off stating I pay $60 or whatever your real number is and let them decide. They will say yes or no and maybe come back. This works better than asking them and then counter offering. BKTUNA/Boyd I am never going home |
