Looking to spend some time in Alajuela. What would be the recomendations of fellow members here on a Chica Friendly hotel, location of mongering delights and MP's. As always I appreciate the knowledge and recommendations this board offers. Thanking you in advance.

Anybody not know that that's not a fun thing?

If I LIVED there I suspect I could find girls. But this is after 5 plus years living in the country and learning to speak passable Spanish. For a first trip, or even a 5th, it's a waste of time. It's a long way to any real action.

Yes, the "mongering delights" and MP's are in San Jose. Other than being closer to the airport and Volcan Poas, there's no reason for to spend any time there.

I read in here previously that there are 3 or 4 decent casas. Couple years back with rent a car drove by this sports bar place near the bus terminal around 6PM or so and lots of people hanging out, looked like fun!

I like the weather in Alajuela. a little warmer and sunnier than SJO. Also looked at this awesome 1950 SF townhome for rent for only $600 in nice gated area close to downtown.

a few years ago myself and a few wingmen made a day of it going there .....we hit a few bars that were fun....we were the only gringo's the 1st bar we hit and we might of hit it to early was by far the best .....maybe 10 girls not the normal set as they looked like girls just coming in to have a drink at the bar.

Then the second looks started at our table and before you had the next drink ....a table of 3 girls would be sitting next to us ....2 of the group took girls and both found them to be good ...after about a hour we left and went to a few other bars ....we had a car so getting around was easy....

Later in the night we we going to a few bars that were friends of the guy who was driving and I met a girl (bartender) at this hole in wall bar that to this day I am pissed that I didn't pull the trigger ....very sweet and cute .....just didn't know how I was going to pull it off with us only having one car.....should of just said Phuck it and did it .....

It's a different experience but a fun one ....you get to a different side of san jose

Even though Alajuela is one of Costa Rica's largest cities, it actually seems like a large town. It's more laid-back than SJ, and has a small contingent of gringos living there as well. Crime is a problem in Alajuela, but not to the degree of SJ. P4P is not as evident, but, to a limited extent, it is available. I accompanied a tica gf, who lives in Alajuela, to a beauty salon, and was pleasantly surprised to find out it offered full-service massages upstairs. The city is home to some pretty women. But, you need to speak Spanish, and have some basic knowledge of tico customs to make any headway with the ladies. It's a great place to hang out, if you have a gf or amigas, but for the average gulch monger, Alajuela may be a disappointment.

As you know Bilko, I did live there after first living not to far from the US Embassy and hence a bit closer to the gulch. Alajuela has a D'pelufos and a few local MP's, sorry guys can't remember where but overall I did not like living there. A girlfriend I had at the time convinced me to live there and it was the worst decision I could have made. The Tico's have a saying "pueblo pequeno infierno grande/small town big hell" and it was for me I could not go anywhere without her finding out from friends where I was including just the grocery store. The friends I knew from San Jose looked at Alajuela like a Hillbilly type of place and that's actually how they described it to me, maybe a little snobbish on their part. Apart from that debacle it's ok to visit but I would agree with Bilko, stay in San Jose unless you just want to see for yourself.

I lived in Alajuela during my first two years in Costa Rica, before I knew any better. It's probably my least favorite town in Costa Rica. It's dirty, uninteresting and has almost nothing going for it except that it's close to the airport. I can't imagine staying there as a visitor when there are so many better options.
