In your opinion "Why is selling yourself outlawed in the US" And so many civilized countries its cool as long as little folks are not involved (which I agree with )?

I wish I knew. Most say it was because of our Puritan beginnings in North America. Fine. I will buy that. But I can’t figure out why it is so firmly entrenched in the states and why Nevada is the only state that seems to tolerate it. Am I that far removed from popular opinion?

In my opinion selling oneself should be a constitutional right. But try to get that one passed.

When you break it down 95% of all sex is actually a bartering game. She wants things and you want sex and the two of you just have to figure out a mutually acceptable price. For some women it is marriage, a house, and a steady income. Some women will give it away for free because they like you or like sex enough. For other women it is cash for the hour. I fail to see the real distinction between marriage for $100,000 or 1 hour for $100 except that marriage involves a contract.

I don’t see any reason why a man can’t be a devoted family man and still have sex on the side. It is in our genes if you look at primates and see their sexual habits. I have had sex with the same woman over and over and I have to tell you…..in my experience it left a lot to be desired. I started having a lot of performance problems because I just wasn’t in to it. It wasn’t exciting. Instead of a lot of healthy sex I drifted towards once a week and I always was using fantasy as a tool to make it more exciting.

I have heard the argument that sex for hire is bad because it is not a good career. The woman only makes good income while she is young and pretty and after that she has no skills to earn a living. Bullsh*t. Professional athletes have short careers we see no reason to make that illegal. Many sex providers use their trade to invest in their own education. It is completely up to the person.

I personally believe that lots of protected sex is healthy for men and would also be healthy for women if we could remove the stigma that our society places on girls that like or choose to have sex with men. Men themselves help to perpetuate this stigma by calling the girls whores. I find the girls to be very human. They are not without flaws because they are human. But if you look deeper you will also find real emotion and feelings. I am not in love with any of the girls, but I am grateful to all of the girls for the pleasure they bring to me.

I wish I could experience this pleasure just down the road from where I live. Instead, I have to fly to Costa Rica to avoid a police sting that would bring embarrassment to my family. Meanwhile, I sit and dream about what it would be like if prostitution was legally protected in the states.

Why is prostitution illegal? I don't know. I guess most would say I am just a freak and my opinion is not shared by the majority.

Lostinspace...great post! Just think of all the police hours/resources involved in arresting people for prostitution. It's phucking ridiculous. The world's oldest profession. Of course, if drugs, pimping or human trafficking are involved, it's a different story. It just pisses me off all the time and money spent by law enforcement to arrest people solely for prostitution.

As I understand it hooking was OK until about 1900 and the army forced the laws to be changed about health concerns. This was before the latex condom. They wanted healthy soldiers and put political pressure on the states with threats of moving bases. Of course there is the puritan background too.

The army AND THE NAVY. New Orleans had a flourishing Red Light district called Storyville* that was totally shut down in 1917 by the Navy, for the reasons you mentioned.

* This district is usually thought to be the home of jazz, every brothel having at least a piano player, and acted as much men's social clubs as just bordellos. I keep hoping jazz will break out in SJO's MPs--so far, no luck.
