A CRT brother in Houston sent me this via email yesterday. Not sure if it has already been posted yet or not. Online U.S. hookers affecting sex tourism here Social media like Facebook and Myspace, among others, have officially overtaken pornography as the No. 1 activity on the Web. Obviously, people have not lost an interest in sex, but clearly the marketplace is moving, growing and operating with relative impunity in the United States via social networks. This kind of global social change has implications for Costa Rica, and it could mean that the problem of sex tourism will come to an end. However, on the other hand it could make it much worse. When living in Costa Rica, it is easy to lose touch with what is happening in the United States and other parts of the world. The fact that cities like Houston, Chicago, Dallas and Miami have been turned into virtual brothels is something that an expat might have missed if they have failed to keep up with technology. The issue is spotlighted by a big federal lawsuit brought by Thomas Dart, the Illinois sheriff who has accused Craigslist — Alexa.com now rates the site No. 7 in the United States — of being the world’s biggest pimp. His case was originally dismissed in October of last year and, the reason is, ironically, due to a federal Ch*ld protection law. The history may be unclear to many people, but can be summed up simply by thinking back to the late 1990s when the U.S. Congress took up the issue of protecting Ch*ldren from online pornography. A compromise was brokered into the 1996 Communications Decency Act that provides broad immunity for “interactive computer service(s).†Section 230 of the Act states that any “interactive computer service†is not a publisher of the content posted by third parties and they are immune from lawsuits or prosecution based on the material users post. The bottom line is that under U.S. federal law Craigslist along with any social network or “interactive computer service†is not responsible for criminal activity perpetrated by its advertisers. It is worth pointing out the print media, such as the infamous Las Vegas telephone book or a “free newspaper,†enjoys no such protection under federal law. The difference is the "electronic" element. Sheriff Dart has filed a new federal case that attempts to prove that Craigslist is complicit in the act of prostitution, and this will prove to be a difficult argument. His point is supported by the fact that in Cook County, Illinois, a girl can for just $5 publish semi-nude or explicit photos and receive phone calls in under an hour. Some girls ask for as little as $50, and even the more professional ladies charge under $200. The question to ask is why would an American use vacation time and pay the cost of airfare and daily hotel lodging just to seek prostitutes in Costa Rica? Perhaps there is some allure in that Costa Rica does offer some anonymity from friends and relatives back home, and that prostitution is not illegal in Costa Rica. While sex tourists in Costa Rica are able to enjoy their party in a relatively open environment, this is likely to have less appeal as the culture of prostitution becomes more commonplace among younger Americans. Remember there is a generation of Americans who will never buy a newspaper and are more likely to meet a spouse online than in person. It also stands to reason they will date prostitutes online despite the potential outcome of the Illinois federal case. Mainstream social media sites like Facebook and the Internet in general is a magical place where something can be concealed from public view and promoted at the same time. Once a culture truly changes, it is usually impossible to go back. The phrase to know is media convergence, and it is the reason why 24 out of 25 of the largest newspapers are experiencing record declines in circulation. Once a generation of consumers is lost, the only possible solution is to evolve, and sex tourism is no exception. Prostitution in Costa Rica is not going to go away, but the face of it will change. The effects are already noticeable when you take a look at the male, aged 20 to 30 who frequent the bars popular with English-speaking tourists in downtown San Jose. This young crowd of consumers are more Costa Rican than international tourists. The late Pat Dunn predicted early in his career as a local bar pioneer that the business in downtown San José would not be able to rely on tourists alone. We are seeing his prediction come to fruition, and the local market is becoming a vital part of the downtown entertainment business. Social networking is the key to reach this audience and the tourists at the same time. The Costa Rican government has proposed a law to curb sex tourism promotion. However, the fact may be that they are way behind the worldwide Internet culture. If a sheriff in Illinois cannot stop sex promotion in his hometown by a company located on U.S. soil, how does the Costa Rican government plan to tackle the problem? |

I second that motion: Story time: in early January of 2009 I spent 15 days at the DelRey. As those of you who know me are aware I hardly ever stray more than six blocks or so from the pink Palace. So with a tad more than two weeks to kill I spent a lot of time sitting at the bar. Was sitting there one afternoon having an intimate conversation with the total stranger sitting next to me. We were not dissimilar in age, income, number of dependence and no interest in long-term romance. While on the subject of enjoying the company of sweet young things he made the statement that he doesn't travel as much as he used to. Why: he had found a couple of young ladies on an Internet site that satisfied his needs economically without traveling. Of course I inquired as to what this site may be. Made use of a DelRey napkin and wrote down the site name. Was planning a trip to Panama for the following February. Long story short did not make the trip. Why: within a day or two of signing up for my 30 day free membership upon my return home I received an e-mail from a lovely young South American who is looking for a generous American to help pay her college tuition. Every other weekend she would leave me quite satisfied and not financially drained. Now I make one trip a year to Costa Rica and the rest of my time is spent enjoying the offerings of the Internet. Currently I'm seeing a young attractive Oriental who provides all the desired services and delivers. By that I mean she drives down every other weekend and spends the night with me. Economic models are changing all across the world. Things are evolving quickly. Old ideas about price, availability and performance are evolving. Don't miss out. Mr. Pacoloco was invited to Biloxi to meet one of these lovely young things and declined the offer. Through that in just to PPPPP-him off. Lee |

Membership: Looks like a done gone and put my foot in it this time. Getting numerous inquiries as to the name of the website. I would have posted it but did not know if it's the right thing to do for CRT. Will PM our fearless leader and if he says it's okay I will. Lee |

Very interesting... just the opposite of 'offshoring' and 'outsourcing.' It's nice the USA is developing a new cottage industry. We may not make great cars or TVs or computers, but we can still make whoopee! |

Lee Come on sugar-daddy tell us the site! ![]() Wow: I post something with the potential to draw more flak than a B-17 over Berlin in 1945. And all I get is one slightly smart comment. ![]() You have to work this website are the one of your choice. I get beat up all the time for spending long hours sitting in the lobby of the DelRey. To me it's a fishing trip and I'm looking for a certain species. Gotten fairly good at finding them. That is the much talked about rarely experienced part-time working girl. The kind of girl I'm looking for would only be on this website for a few days. First and most importantly she is paranoid that someone is going to recognize her. So she loses her nerve after a day or two and is gone. Or she runs into a psycho the first day and runs away never to return. If you decide to try this path take a few things into consideration. First most of these girls are not at all like they say they are short version false advertising. Be prepared to have drinks with some really off the wall ugly broadens. A recent example contacted a lovely young lady ( at least according to her pictures ) and arranged a late afternoon meet and greet at a downtown bar. Description on the website that is 5 foot 7, 27 years old and slender build. That was backed up by the photographs. Well when it came time for the meet and greet in walked the 5 foot 2 30 plus something that weighed in at about 190 pounds. If you can't deal with that kind of thing do not go down this road. By the way I went out the back door. One other thing the majority never show up. Or it could be they take one look at me and go out the back door. ![]() Lee |

OK. I would like to hear if Sugar Daddy really works. I think its a big scam to get you to plunk down $49 to join. I think its like Ashley Madison with a a bunch of shills enticing guys to sign up and interacting with them just enough to keep up the subscription. The bottom line is that USA whores are society losers and drug addicts. You pay a lot of money and you just phuck for one hour, all the time worrying if you might get busted. At least in CR you get to pick up and then party with a good looking girl. She may also be a beautiful civilian just desperate for money. Nothin' better than that on the planet. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
