So I went to check out Teatro Nacional's "Teatro al Mediodía" guitar recital yesterday.

Talk about gringo tax. The price for residents was â‚¡500, the price for "extranjeros" was â‚¡5,000.

Oh yeah, Greg, the co-owner of HDR was there!

Are the theatre employees getting any more money in their pay when a gringo visits?

For those interested in other doings at the Teatro Nacional, here's their Website: http://www.teatronacional.go.cr/
Which brings up the question--Is there a central listing for this and other cultural events in the SJO area (other legit theaters, galley openings, smaller classical musical events, that sort of thing)? This may be an odd thing to bring up on a monger board but you gotta do something with downtime.

get a CR driver's license if you don't already have one - i've never been charged the extranjero rate for anything since i show my driver's license in place of a cedula, and it's always been accepted

Puravida29:

Please walk me through the steps to get a D/L. I asked my novia to check on the cedula issue but it seems that since I only "live" in CR about a week a month (I still have to work, ya know??) that it's "not possible".

Thanks

Puravida29, you make a great point. I will seriously take that into consideration.

But, I wonder if that will help in New Fantasy? :P

Doubt it. About a year ago, I tried to get the Tico price with a Residente Permanente Cedula and got an "Are you crazy?" look.

This whole topic was covered from every conceivable point of view ad nauseam about a year ago. Bottom line: it happens everywhere so get used to it. Not to say you shouldn't look for work-arounds or that it doesn't grate on your nerves when it does.
