Post subject: | heavy police presence this week |
There seems to be increased policia presence in the Gulch and the Neighborhood this week--Harry's Bar Poas closed down on what seems to be humbug, the street from Chubb's to the del Rey having a police checkpoint, 3 squads of 4 officers walking the street behind the SL... The cops take orders from somebody--anybody have a clue? What's reported in the local press? Most vexing. |

Not sure of the latest but, two weeks ago I noticed the cops behind SL on several occasions. Groups of three or four. One night I came back to SL in a taxi very late and there were cops all over from the old zoo gate to the back door of SL. Not sure what they were doing??? |

One night in January I was going to SL in taxi and he took the route behind the SL. As we rounded the corner there was a man standing as if he was taking a piss and there was what seemed to be a chica with her back to the street. The driver asked me if I knew what was really going on? I replied "a girl is waiting for her date to finish taking a leak". He replied "no sir". "That was a transvestite giving a custoner head and when they saw the headlights that put on the act". Maybe someone has been robbed or hurt back there. It is pretty phucking dark back there. Why would anyone be back there anyway? fiddy |

The police station is over behind the SL, they walk the street behind the SL going to and from work. I have never seen them bother anyone there. Mostly they are the foot patrol officers around AV Central. The checkpoints for cars around the DR are commonplace on weekends. What happened to Harry's place? Anyone know? BKTUNA/Boyd I am never going home |

wasn't there a report of a shooting/assault outside his place (Harrys) awhile back? here is a minor story reported in the AM news Two prostitution raids target downtown owner By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Judicial police raided what they called two hidden prostitution locations in the downtown and on Avenida 10. Both operations were run by the same owner, said unofficial reports. One operation was hidden behind a massage parlor front, a report said. Usually prostitution raids result in the closing of a business for a day or two, but this owner may have plenty to worry about. Agents reported that they found a 16-year-old working as a prostitute in one of the locations. If true, that would be a major crime. |

Since it is a restaurant too, this shouldn't be a problem, unless perhaps they were sitting at the bar. I saw Harry last night but I didn't want to grill him for details. He seemed his usual mellow self, not too upset. I think they closed him down for 3 days. I'm not a very good journalist of I would have gotten all the details. |

No cops people bitch To many cops people bitch Brother Bilko brought up a point in another post If you were a cop ??? would you rather hastle a few places a day in downtown to earn your keep Or go to one of the bad Barrios and try and bust bad asses I do not see this as a crack down on the gulch per say Presure has been put on the police to do more So they do more in the relitive safty of downtown Gringos do not go to many areas .... they have been warned.... we are as welcomed as the polica With that said there is abit of problem with crime |

I have written on my blackboard uno mil times--"I will check the facts more closely before posting." Brother BKTuna is doubtless correct about the SL, and it would take all the police in the country to close El Pueblo. That said, Harry's Bar Poas suffered at least a minimal closure and El Tobagon dance hall did as well--both for unknown reasons. And as I was with Brother Bilko that night (fun night, Bro), I agree Harry didn't seem upset. |
