Unpunctuality - that's the translation Babylon.com gives for "impuntualidad," a characteristic of Latinamerica. Presently working on a degree in Spanish as a pastime, I came across a segment in a commerce and culture textbook that explains why chicas are always late. According to the book, it has been seen as better in Latinamerica to leave a business meeting late, eventhough it might force you to be late for another appointment, than rush just to be on time. Being late is so acceptable that the other party will arrive late, expecting you to be late, and not wanting to have to wait for you. However, in modern times, the characteristic has become recognized as a negative in the business world and whole countries have tried to reverse the phenomena. Ecuador, for example, enacted a law banning "impuntualidad." I wouldn't go around using the verbatem definition, "unpuntuality," because I couldn't find it in an English dictionary. Latness will have to do. However, the Spanish version, impuntualidad, is alive and well. Just ask a chica to meet you at the bar at a certain time!

... or as we all warmly refer to it as "Tica Time" !!!

I met a cute chica the other day at the DR. I asked her to have a drink with me at the bar. We got our drinks and talked for about 2 minutes and then she got multiple phone calls from "her amigas" and talked for about 15 minutes.
