They are saying it was only a 4.4 quake, but I have been in a 6.0 that felt no where near as strong as this one did. They are also saying it was centered near Vulcon Irazu which is only about 40 Kl from here. Guess that is why it felt so strong. Reports are coming in that it was felt over most of CR.

Now they are saying the epicenter was in Sabanilla which is only about 5 k from where I am! That would explain why it felt so strong! Sabanilla is about 7.5 k from downtown San Jose

BangBang,

I was inside Key Largo tonight. Kind of glad I "missed" it since I didn't feel the shake.

So far I have heard of no serious damage anywhere. One point of explanation: I live on the 3rd floor of a 4 story building and the higher up you are, the more you will normally feel the quake. That combined with the fact that i am located very close (less than 2 miles) to the epicenter made it feel much worse than it apparently was. It did shake up EVERYONE in the building! Within 2 minutes everyone was outside the building and a couple even refused to return to their apartment.

Wow, so that really was an earthquake last night? I was in the bathroom of my room at the Dunn Inn (on the second floor), and it shook pretty good for a few seconds, but nothing else. Thought it might have been a big truck rumbling down the street or someone pushing a large cart on the roof ( ), but then I thought....wait, was that a quake?

Man, this makes me feel better about staying at the SL - it's only two story and I normally stay on the first, and near an exit so I can get out hopefully before I'm trapped.

It was fairly strong compared to the normal quakes we get. Not as strong (or as long) as the big one last year, but it definitely shook. Usually they're more like tremors.
