So I was picked up at the Dunn Inn by Jeff Wilson piloting the Big Bus Thursday (there had been an 1-1/2 hour delay to take care of another patient; Jeff called and kept me fully informed) for the other 1/2 of the dental work, mainly fillings but also panoramic X-rays. They don't do this work on site but take you to a separate indie facility (this is also a separate charge--$27 and payment in colones only) and then back to the office. My Doctora this day was Dra. Andrea Stedman for an orthodontic check up. She studied this in Germany for 4 years--I knew I'd be in good hands. No upselling (I actually needed less work than I'd feared) but a straight-up no-pressure discussion of future work I'll have done and the impact work done will have on the future (an example: I'll need to have a thorough teeth cleaning done every 3 months instead of 6 months--in CR, natch). Again, this is a thoroughly professional outfit that is very good now (early 2010) and will get better as they recruit different specialties--a geriatric practice, perhaps? or an endodontist? They have an on-site dental clinic (Mike Lomax the owner, was in that biz for 35+ years)--I didn't ask to see it but you might wanna--so if you need stuff made it's more immediately available and cheaper--vertical integration works. TOTAL: $35/filling + $72/cleaning (by the Dentist!) + $27/X-rays = $494 (this includes our healthy discount)>>>for what I'd guesstimate was $2K in the US. Somebody may ask them and report back how the billing experience went using U. S. dental insurance--I used a combo of cash and credit card, and it was smoothly done--no problem. Just a huge Bravo! to all concerned. |

Just curious, how many fillings did you need? I tried to get in to visit the, but I messed up the logistic badly, and by the time I was finally able to get in touch with them they were all booked up. Make sure you call ahead and schedule an appointment. |

I had 11 fillings done--some big, some small @ $35 per. And did I mention how expertly things like anesthetizing were done? An advantage to me is that the dentists being women and thus with smaller hands, could work inside the mouth easier. Sexist in a good way, eh? And I've never had a deep cleaning and fillings before that didn't ache big time the next day. Not so here--next day, 1 aspirin and some coffee--ache gone. |

If Jazzbo doesn't post a trip report other than his dental work, he might be back to this outfit very soon with a lot more new work to be done. ![]() Dean |

If I could spark 5% of the dynamism Brother Dean generates, I would. Although I could talk about the great music I heard all over town. And the 2 Chicas I engaged with, from the Pinko and the KL. But,seriously my fun was mostly public, getting to know some of the good (and and a few, great) men and women (shout out to Magda a barkeep at Dunn Inn) I've met here. And Hey! not being up in del Norte these Snowmageddon weeks (absence of a negative equals a positive. My math, anyway.) OK, now, back to talking about our terrif dental Sponsor providers...Y'all--Jump in any time with your impressions. |

I really apreciate the info, I tried to make it in January, but was more reactive than proactive, and by the time I made the call, they were totally booked until my departure day. By the way, their website states that they are open on Saturdays, but thats only for apointments, found out the hard way. But it just gives me an excuse to go back in a few months, not that I really needed an excuse, but works well with coworkes and family members. |

Brother Osgood is correct--Their deepest cleaning level so they could examine me thoroughly for periodontal work. And it was a combined bill so I may have overstated the cost when I broke it out. They are forthcoming about individual costs if asked--I just didn't. |

Competition is a good thing. Here's Junky11's Website http://www.kaversmiles.com ...But do they offer being ferried most everywhere in a limo? And then there's Paola at the front counter...Lord have mercy! |

Well, brother ID, I wouldn't pick a service based on ancillaries or amenities--it just shows the extra lengths these folks go to to get and hold our business. As they'd say in Louisiana, a "lagniappe". All that was mentioned to give the Brothers a full, overall picture of this pleasant, professional dental experience. |
