Cut and Past from article confirming Laura's election:

Quote:
Casino operators are leery of Ms. Chinchilla, who has called the gambling establishments centers of prostitution. At the time she appeared to have overlooked the nation's strip clubs where prostitution is the norm and the many massage parlors and similar establsihments that are highly visible in the country.

Could it be a "shot across the bow" warning of things to come from the Chinchilla administration?

Notice who is making the comment about overlooking strip clubs, etc. It is not Laura, it is the editor of AM Costa Rica. He has openly declared himself to be a political and moral conservative. His comments lead me to think he HOPES Laura will clean up this sin city, and let moral paragons such as himself live in a world of his liking. No sex for YOU unless you get married!!!!

It is possible she could really shutdown all the P4P in CR. This happened in other places. Like 10 years ago they did the same in Puerto Rico. They used to have great Mps and clubs there --ALL shutdown by the moral crusaders. The end may be near for CR P4P..

P4P and Gambling in Costa Rica is bigger than Laura. Politician can say any thing to get elected. but once in office and they see the magnitude of the revenue they will lost if they mess with the status quo; they will just look aside and let it be.

Many people do not go to Costa Rica to see Volcano or rain forest or for their Beaches. people go to Costa Rica because of the Side adventure you can have.

We use trip like to go fishing or look at rain forest and see volcano to get to our little P4P adventure we want to have at the Del- Ray, Sportsman or other place on the cost .. So she can go ahead and mess with it and she will see how much people she have coming to see her forest or go fishing.

Just my two cent worth..

While I have no clear vision of what direction Laura will take concerning gambling and P4P during her administration I tend to disagree with the points made by JR60.

"Politician can say any thing to get elected. but once in office and they see the magnitude of the revenue they will lost if they mess with the status quo; they will just look aside and let it be."

Laura did not make a campaign issue out of either but did take action against both while a Vice President.

" Many people do not go to Costa Rica to see Volcano or rain forest or for their Beaches. people go to Costa Rica because of the Side adventure you can have."

The vast majority of tourist are exactly that, tourists not tourists seeking gambling or P4P. I believe most government and tourist bureau people feel that while cracking down or eliminating P4P or casinos may cause an initial lose of tourist revenue it will eventually be replaced and increased by tourists seeking a wholesome family atmosphere.

and the SL & DR have no qualms placing ads in a news medium that is anti P4P.

It's business not an endorsement or a repudiation by either side.
