I have heard that Chinchilla's lead in the polls is shrinking, with 2 weeks left, and now there is a chance that she might be forced into a runoff. If this is true she might be in trouble since frontrunners have difficult times in runoffs. Also my expierience with US elections is that a front running candidate who's lead is shrinking like this in the last 2 weeks often loses.
I hear her problem is that she tried to pass herself off as a feminist, but apparently she is no feminist at all, but simply a religious right fanatic. This could be worse for us if she wins.

I've seen this posted on a couple of other sites. Is there anyone who might have some info on this?

Apparently, she made some comments to the effect of "a typical Costa Rican family should be Catholic", and so the various other religious groups took offense.

My wife's parents who are evangelical are no longer voting for her.

Laura is a feminist, religious freak.

Otto owns a flotilla of "taxis piratas" and two sportsbooks. Is being said that Otto is being financed by the "Mafia".

What wonderful choices CR has! A feminazi and a mafioso-owned bozo (apologies to any Brothers who follow the code of omerta).

First , thanks for the article. It had the info I heard about.

Also you can't put a liberal or conservative tag in US terms on either of these 2. LC's pro-life stand would totally exclude her from being a feminist and the fact that she dislikes men like us dosen't make her a feminist either. The only feminist thing about her is that she is a woman.

The only thing we can assume is that in this case the male candidate would likely be better for us, and I don't know how positive we can be about that. But at this moment I think I would prefer that he wins.

Particularly in CR, where privatization is liberal and a socialized system is conservative.

The core value of American feminism is that it is anti-male.

If she made the Catholic quote, then she will have problems. Latin America has been converting to Protestantism, most generally Evangelical Christianity, although with the Iranians arriving in Venezuela and not leaving, Islamic Fundamentalism may catch up.

The long term effect on prostitution here has more to fear from these two forces than from Chincilla.

You are on to something Whosear, it is very difficult to pigeon hole Costa Ricans if we base those pigeon holes on U.S. values. It is made even more complicated since the more common place U.S. pigeon holes (conservative, liberal, progressive, etc.) are difficult to define and well, pigeon hole. LC is simply biased against men, foreigners, and especially foreign men. She has a real history of significant bias.

My experience with our middle eastern fundamentalist brothers is that when they are away from the homeland and prying eyes they let their hair down indulging in alcohol and women: read that as two fisted drinkers and two fisted . . . well you know.
