A buddy of mine was there and did some digging on this... I was told the guy had come down the previous year and built up a debt with Nicaraguan pimps and drug dealers and then skipped town. He came back a year later, thinking the coast was clear.. but apparntly it wasn't. |

Perhaps, but the guy was well known in the area. He claimed to be connected to the mafia, etc.. He was a used car salesman for crying out loud, he wasn't that clean. |

What I found puzzling is that evidently there was no robbery, just a straight-up homicide. |

Precisely the point. And they dumped his body face down in a ditch. They asphixiated him with a plastic bag. It has all the earmarks of a gang related killing. Coincidentally, or maybe not, the local grocery store went up in flames that same night, and apparently the guy lived right behind it. So believe it or not, it's up to you. But you explain a murder with no robbery to a guy that might otherwise seem "well liked" in an area that has almost no violent crime. |

Apparently there is still some question on the circumstances of his death. It has not been determined at this time if he was murdered. AM Costa Rica 1/12/2010. Quote: Death of tourist investigated
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Investigators are awaiting the full autospy report on a Massachusetts man who died at Playa Potrero Dec. 31 or Jan. 1. The man identified as John Joseph Scibeck was found along side a road in the Pacific beach community. The case has been played up as a murder in the Boston area media, although there is no certainty of foul play. Initial indications are that the man died of asphyxiation, but he was 67. There was no sign of robbery. |

I just wanted to let you all know that the Bostonian man that died in Costa Rica was my father-in-law. He was a retired car salesman. He has 2 son and at the time of his death he had agrandchild on the way that he did not even know about yet. My daughter will never have the chance to meet her grandfather that would have loved her so much. All I want is to know who did what they did to him and why. |

A man gets killed and already rumors about how this man lived his live start to spread. He is being slandered in his death. Great postings for a family to read about their loved one. |
