How do i go about getting shots for traveling to Costa Rica ? Ive squirmed together the money i need and can leave after the insane airplane hikes of December travel . Id say 5 or so weeks from today i can be there . But what i need is shots. For reasons o do not want to get into i do not want to go to my doctor . The only place i can think of to give them is passport health . I called them today to find out they want an insane 235 per shot of twinrix plus a $50 fee for going over the shots i need and why. This is after i already explained what i need and want . from what i understand i will be ok after a advanced shot schedule or two injections of twinrx . This takes about a month so i need them now. If anyone has any idea's of where i should look to get them please tell me .

There are no mandatory vaccines for entry in CR from the US. Twinrx is enough. I think it's a 2-dose series, taken a month apart, right?

I wouldn't get any more than that. You won't come in contact with Ebola. Since it sounds like money is an issue, go to your family doctor (unless he's actually family) and you don't want your family to find out you're going to Central America to bang hookers. :P

No it's not a money issue i simply despise doctors , hospitals and all that . Doctors here are a scam . They will not just give me shots. They will want to run test and give me a physical since i have never had one . Then they will make me pay for the services i never wanted in the first place . That will ad up to hundreds of dollars more for no reason . I have heard of people getting twinrix at costco and other places. However where i live they don't seem to do shots . I am trying to find some place that will give me what i want and skip over what i do not . I am not just going to costa rica i am also going to Thailand this summer . I plan on going into jungle area's in both places. I want all my shots listed on the cdc site plus a rabies shot just in case.

Welcome to the realities of "defensive medicine". Doctors are unwilling to give a patient who they have no medical history with a service just because they ask for it. Doing so without following certain protocols leaves them very vulnerable to a medical malpractice suit.

You say you have never had a physical that unto itself is strange for an adult. Have you ever seen a physician for any reason? Does a member of your family have a family doctor? If either of those things has occurred your best solution is to contact that Doctor. Most likely you are still not going to be able to just walk in and get the shots without some other procedures but it might save you some.

People walk into places to just get shots all the time. The health department used to give them . I am just trying to find places i have not thought of . No test are needed for immunizations they simply follow the guide lines provided by the cdc . The scam is the fact they force other things on you . I do not like doctors i have seen them enough and had enough pills forced on me for a life time. They are only good for finding reasons to drug you.

The reply above for TwinRX is OK for Costa Rica--Thailand especially outlying areas is a whole different story. I well understand your reluctance to engage the medical profession but they exist for a purpose. Try this: Get what you need for CR then ask a doctor here what you need for Thailand. They are not so afraid here I believe of Medical Malpractice lawsuits and should give you straight answers and what you need without the BS. BTW, while you're here either this time or the next, get a physical--PLEASE--especially if you are 40+. They are easy to get, inexpensive and thorough. I want to be able in 10 years to buy you a beverage at SL.
SOFT PITCH: If you are a member, you can save enough on the hotel and some restaurant bills to afford the physical--and you also gain access to our Monger Map and the sage advice others can give in the members-only Forums. Billed discreetly and card-pickup available at Hotel Little Havana in SJ.

Your county health department should give out vaccines. I'm a member of an immigration forum and many immigrants use them to get the shots needed to apply for residency.

They are not free in most cases, but are much cheaper than privaste doctors. And they DO give out just the vaccine, without further tests (unless mandated for a specidic vaccine).

For Hep vaccines, no prior testing is required.

Like i said before it's not a matter of paying for the doctors. I simply hate them . I used to have to go to them on every week or more. I never wish to see them again . I am in my 20's and i am extremely fit . I am still very much into the category of if it's broke now and i can't tell it can stay broken for a long time before it matters . I think i am skipping Cr and going to japan / Thailand later this year instead . Maybe i will hit Cr next year . As far for the shots I know my health department should give out shots. However they don't . Not only do they not but a few close city's do not as well . Either way thanks for at least trying to help me out .
