I'm not hyping the site, since generally they are pretty amateurish, not to mention biased. But today's issue has some stories that I think some of us will find of interest. Page one is a predictably 'conservative' opinion piece about global warming. The editor makes no bones about the fact that he's a 'conservative' and this piece is about what you'd expect. Page two contains a couple of local stories probably translated from the local papers. I skimmed over them without much interest. Page 3 is a good one, though. It talks about 'citizen security' and how it is becoming a campaign issue, and also gives some information about the presidential candidates' positions and some info on who is running. Page four covers a 'riot' by street vendors which included injuries among both vendors and police, teargas, and lots of other nifty news. Just as an aside, I did a little blog on the 'informal economy' (street vendors among others) on my blog about life in Costa Rica: http://www.usexpatcostarica.com/search/ ... al-economy Anyway, there's some stuff worth reading there in AM Costa Rica, today at least, check it out. |

where was the riot? along the pedestrian walkway? and calle 3? hahahahaha, can you imagine the tourists scrambling for cover. ahhh, the sweet scent of tear gas! ps - like your blog about the street vendors...42% of the GDP is fake sunglasses, socks and chicklet sales? wow, throw in the little darlings and illegal substance sales and that leaves, lets see...that leaves......what?...maybe 10 percent legit business contributing to GDP? Sounds like SoFla! |

wow, that is a major tourist area. i read the other story inside cr (thanks for the tip, ID) seems it went on for hours! none of our CRT guys saw it? I remember one afternoon in the commercial district in cali, the cops used stun/flash grenades to scatter the street vendors along one congested block. the stores pulled their shutters and waited for the commotion to end. wonder what guests at the Prez and the Gran thought of the riot.... is this a first for that area? riotwise? |

For the record, I don't believe in global warming. I do believe that the planet has 'cycles' and that we do exert influences......but GW is more world politics than reality. I like being 'green' too, but, F the overuse of the term is making me green. |
