I was watching those food show about Colombia and they visited this restaurant, and translated the name as, "What do I have to do to make you fall in love with me?"

I get the "Que" and the "para" and the "enamorarte," but I don't understand the "are" part. Or is it spelled wrong? Or am I not putting the right letters together?

Here's the link to the segment about the restaurant:

That's a very unusual name. I'd say that it would translate to "what I will do to make you fall in love with me", with that you can figure out the meaning of "aré" (notice the accent).

I am suspicious of the translations. Given the Colombianos' fondness for AREPAS, I suspect that QueAREPArenomorarte, has something to do with the love for that bland, tasteless corn cake, IMO.

Hare (accent over the e) is the 1st person singular simple future tense of the verb hacer, which means to make or do. The H is silent (as is almost always the case in Spanish) and appears to be omitted in the unusual spelling of this name.

Hope that helps.

What he said. Someone got cutesy OR mispelled the phrase when they named the restaurant. :)

BTW it is an excellent place to eat.
Fantastic service and very good food.
A little bit of a drive up into los montanas but well worth it.
A great treat for yourself and a favorita. If you email them they will even send you a menu in Ingles.

8) 8) 8)

I agree with the 2 MH guys (Miamiheller and Mikehawg)!!!

When writing, Latinos, especially in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Colombia tend to leave off the "H" which is always silent. One of my current favorites and I "chat" a lot on the net, and she drives me crazy sometimes trying to figure out what she is saying because she NEVER types in the "H".

Maybe someone should open a restaurant called:

Que podria hacer para que me chupes como aspiradora?

I would probably eat there.

CiaoCiao

Once again, your suspicion is correct. I checked the etymology of "Queareparaenamorarte" with a cunninglinguist friend and he confirmed that the word did originate with the Santander natives of Colombia, was altered slightly by the Spanish language of the Conquistadors, and refers to the ideal serving temperature of grilled or fried arepas.

OK

"Que hare para enamorarte" = "What I will do to win your love" Because the "h" is silent in the spoken word, it was just dropped here in the written form. "Hare" accent on the final "e" is the 1st person, singular, future tense of "hacer", "to do" or "to make"

Well done! :D Too bad there is no fishing hook emoticon here!! Nevertheless, I feel that your team of cunning linguists could have at least compromised and admitted that the real meaning is "What do I have to do to win your lovely arepa''!
