That appears to be only for MOPT officials. I don't know if the Policia Traffico's are MOPT officers or not... |

They should crack down on pirate taxis. First time in county and a pirate was demanding my passport number so that he could give me a receipt. |

That is what the law says a private taxi driver has to do... he will then give you a small receipt from the book. The piratas who have never been caught by MOPT are the ones who do not ask for your passport. Only after they have been caught do they start following the laws. |

Well I didn't give him my passport and I threatened to slit his throat if he didn't just take us to our destination. Passport number..come on...You gotta be a gov't official to demand that..not some chump. |

Taque, This is not the US. Identity theft is just not an issue virtually any costa rican has ever dealt with. Privacy of such information is virtually unheard of. You have to give your passport (the real one, not a copy) to any bank to do almost any transaction, including exchanging money. I have to give my passport number when i buy things that have any kind of guarantee (for instance, computer parts, or a waffle iron). So no, it's not "corrupt" for them to demand your passport, but it is *EXTREMELY* rude of you to threaten to slit his throat over it. |

What an interesting website! You can complain about bad roads. I wonder if that means dangerous bridges as well. |

To bring this Thread back on track--This "Denuncio" seems to be a complaint form one can fill out when you're stopped for an offense and either a bribe is solicited/ demanded or there's some other funny business going on, and then submitted to the MOPT IAD (Internal Affairs) function. That about right? |
