It's a problem at ICE. But if you call ICE, they may say your phone is causing the problem.

From Tuesday's AM Costa Rica

Quote:
Cell phones continue to have some problems

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The nation's cell phone system is a mess, and the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad is having trouble keeping up with the consumer demand.

The phone company unified the two cell p\hone systems Saturday, but by Monday some cell phones simply were not working. Frustrated phone company techs at the designed call-in line have taken to blaming the user for faulty telephones.

Some users, perhaps 10 percent of the cell phone population with GSM lines cold not get a dial tone and could not receive incoming calls.

Reboot your phone. That may clear things up.
ICE has been having issues since they switched their GSM network last weekend. Their SMS has been hosed today.

I'm still having problems calling from the states to CR from my cell phone. I either get dropped calls or it rings and couple of times and says"your call did not go through" or "your party is no longer on the line" I used to could text one way but that seems to have failed also. Does anyone know how long before they get this problem gets straigtened out?

I'm back home now but as of yesterday, I could not call out. I was able to receive calls and I was always able to send/receive texts but every time I tried to dial out, I had a recorded message telling me I'd dialed the wrong number. I did manage to get one outside call made when I was passing the airport so I dont know if it was just certain areas of town.

Either way, thanks for the info.

AngloTime, I don't know how current you are on Costa Rica so forgive me if this is very old news: You have to dial an extra 8 before cell numbers or 2 before land lines. Total digits for a call to go through = 8.

Trying to find out if ICE is working to call back to the US. Normally I do not have any problems with ATT calling back to the US. Can anybody comment on Calling from Costa to the U.S.?
