Post subject:  Help with Magic Jack, please.

I just installed Magic Jack and cannot set up my voice mail. I can't seem to find instructions on using the VMB and call forwarding on the site, which seems more concerned about selling addtional years of service than providing basic setup instructions. Yes, the I can make and receive calls, so the system itself is working. Any ideas? Reply here or via PM...thanks.

I can't access my voicemail either. I get emails but when I listen to them, they are blank.

I agree that their support is shitty.

From that link:

From your phone (that is plugged into your MagicJack) dial your own number. Or: Click the Voice Mail button on your Softphone (the phone displayed on your computer screen).

When you hear a voice, press the * (star) key. When prompted, dial the default password 1234 on your phone or Softphone.

EC,

If you plan on extensive traveling over the next few years, you might want to think about getting additional years of service added to your plan from the get go. If I remember correctly, it's cheaper to add 5 years to your plan when you're a new customer. If you wait until your 1st year is up, and then renew - it will be at a higher rate. Just my dos colones...

MG, Yes...already done. :D Very inexpensive that way.

Hansonderman: Thanks. The default VB password didn't work as of last night, but I'll econnect the magic Jack and try magicfix.

Thanks to all for the help.

I haven't. The only thing I noticed, is that there is about a 1/2 second delay in your conversation. Other than that, no issues.

Post subject:  Voicemail problems again

Part of the problem is that there is no information given about how to set up the VMB, nor how to use call forwarding given at installation. Furthermore, their website is very uninformative.

I managed to set up my VMB (greetings, password, etc.), then tried to leave myself a message from another phone. When I went to retrieve the message, there was no audio content whatsoever, although the system prompted me to save or delete, etc.

Does anyone have a toll-free number for these bozos? Their so-called "live agent" is not. Instead, clicking the link takes you to "Magic Fix," an automated troubleshooting/remote repair system.

I like the call quality and price, but so far the rest has been problematic to say the least.

Regarding echo: If you are using your PC speakers and microphone, rather than a telephone handset or headphones, you will get echo from audio feedback if nothing else. As is the case with Skype, if you get an echo, try replacing the PC speakers with a standard headphone set. Or plug a traditional telephone into the jack on the Magic Jack box. HTH.

Yep it's worth it, I got it and it was like 60 bucks for five years of service instead of 20.00 per year or something like that

Post subject:  Update re: Magic Jack VMB

Here's a quick update:
I was able to set up/personalize the VMB via regular telephone, nd to retrieve my voice mail from that same phone. However, I cannot retrieve voice mail from either the phone connected via Magic Jack, nor from the on-screen "soft phone." Also, like Orange, the VM in my e-mail appears to be blank.

Anybody?[/img]

Funny thing happened yesterday. I called my MJ number and left myself a test message (again) and when I got the email, I played it and it worked. I could hear my message. Now, I;'m not sure how it worked since I didn't touch any of the settings since the last time, when it was blank. Could it be an internal MJ issue?

Orange, this is weird.... My VM works perfectly as of today. I am able to retrieve messages from my MJ phone, from an alternate phone, and by opening the e-mail attachment. I'm happy about, but 'm at a loss to explain it. :? Ah, technology...!
