Any kind of organic product will be confiscated if detected. They are very good at reading the images that they get from the baggage xray. Additionally they ask are you bringing in any fresh foods on your customs declaration. |

I would disagree with this statement. A couple trips ago, I brought some homemade food in one of my suitcases. I put both suitcases on the belt and to his credit, he did recognize the food and put a inspection sticker on the suitcase. The only problem was that he got the image inverted or something because he put it on the wrong suitcase. He should be working for TSA. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Concur with everyone who said "confiscate." I lost 1 Fuji apple four years ago when it was spotted in the X-ray at SJO customs. ![]() |

![]() Last year a friend was bringing me a few Idaho baking potatoes. They were spotted on the xray and confiscated. Dam still can't get a decent steak with a good baked potato in CR. ![]() |

OK it's been pretty well established you can't bootleg anything in via airliner. How about shipping it in, using an authorized shipping service? A friend that's sailing down here? Or is it just a total, strongly enforced ban? |

It's pretty easy to get something like that in.. just wear pants (or shorts) with cargo pockets and put them in the pockets.. they never search you. |

I wouldn't say you can't bootleg anything. While I've never checked with the authorities, I don't know that they would approve of my bringing in gallons of half and half, HolaB's bringing in steaks and cookie dough, etc. Perhaps it is just fresh fruit and veggies they go after, and not all things 'organic.' They found a bag of apples and grapes in my bag on the last 2 trips, all they did was take it and put it in the trash. They had to see it on the x-ray machine or how else would he have known they were in there. |

With all the fresh fruit in CR, why would anyone want to bring it in with them? |

Ciaociao Perhaps "organic" is not the correct term but I know when I had a couple of bags of pepperoni and they told me open the bag the officer kept saying "organic, organic"?. When he saw it was pepperoni he said okay. I know people who have brought in beef and other meats with no problem. However any fresh fruit, vegetables, seeds, etc. are confiscated if they find them. |

Yes, it's fresh fruit, vegetables and plants that they're looking for, as those things could have foreign microbes, bugs and other critters on them that need to be kept from coming into the country. If it's been processed in any kind of way, no problem. |

I usually arrive somewhere around 9pm and I swear they are so callous, that I could bring in a bag of hand grenades unnoticed. |
