Susie Essman
Quote:
"I always thought if wedding vows went something like: 'For better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, and you'll never have sex with anyone for the rest of your life,' people wouldn't be so quick to say, 'I do.' "

Its good that you included the source because the FULL quote puts it into a very different context:
Quote:
But Essman, who was 53 when she married ... , has no regrets. "So you marry a guy when you're 25, and that's it? That's the extent of your sexual experience? That wasn't for me,"
I really DON'T think she meant for what you quoted to apply to a 53 year old gringo monger who has probably had as many sexual partners up to that point in their lives as at least 10 other "normal" people ever have and probably even had more sexual partners by the time they were just 25 as most other "normal" people have in their lifetimes.

However, I'd still DEFINITELY go along with her point. If I was 25, I wouldn't be quick AT ALL to agree to a wedding vow like that and, even at the age of 52, I personally STILL fail to see the reason for including that normally unspoken part of the marriage "bargain". Besides, even if I was prepared to vow lifelong sexual fidelity to one women for the rest of my life at my age, it certainly wouldn't be with a woman anywhere close to my age. A 40 year old women might be attractive enough for me at 52, but that wouldn't last nearly long enough and I certainly wouldn't want to be restricted to having sex with a nearly 60 year old woman when I hit 70. Even marrying a much younger woman at my age would be a real crapshoot. A nice young 25-30 year old can make my blood boil today, but once she's got me locked in how long will she bother to keep up her looks and what will SHE look like at 40? I guess that's an example of the "for better or for WORSE"!

:? I don’t believe I mentioned 53 year old mongers. What’s your point?

My point was NOT that you mentioned 53 year old mongers but that you DIDN'T and that the person you were selectively quoting WAS actually talking POSITIVELY about herself marrying at 53 and that the negative remarks you DID quote were really only directed at someone who was only 25 years old AND did NOT have a lot of other sexual experiences (ie conditions that do not really apply to most of us).

BTW, you should notice that while you were posting that question, I was adding my remarks to the effect that while the person you quoted may not have intended her remarks to apply to guys like most of us, such a vow would not go over particularly well either with guys with our sort of proclivities. So I still see and agree with YOUR basic point.

Susie Essman's best quote: "Larry, you sick phuck!!! What the phuck did you do to my dog!?!?

Or pretty much anything she say's on "Curb Your Enthusism". Seriously funny show, can't wait for the new season.

I got your point and liked your quote ... Thanks ... It was a good thread idea and hopefully others will come across provocative monger quotes and ad to the mix ...
