So Ticos are the happiest people on earth and Gringos are no longer the worst tourists? Quote: French are world's 'worst tourists'
A survey of hotels worldwide has bestowed the dubious honor of world's worst tourists on the people of France. Ranked on nine categories, from politeness to dress to generosity, the survey last month, conducted by TNS Infratest for Expedia, rated the French as rude, cheap and the least apt to try a new language, Agence France-Presse reports. They did, however, rank high on elegance, cleanliness and discretion. The Japanese are considered the best travelers and are viewed as the cleanest and politest. And Americans? They got top marks as the biggest spenders and tippers and were judged the most likely to give a new language a whirl. But U.S. tourists fell way short on several other criteria. The "ugly Americans" are seen as the most untidy, the loudest, the worst complainers and the worst dressed. Here's the global top 10: Japan Britain Canada Germany Switzerland Holland Australia Sweden USA Denmark So it looks like the Colombianas are right when they say get rid of the shorts, flip-flops and/or Hawaiian shirts. And BB57 is right when he says stop spoiling those MP chicas. ![]() ![]() ![]() http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/07/survey-french-are-worlds-worst-tourists.html |

Amen Brother PacoLoco--and Hey! They don't have to be from mainland France either--St. Pierre et Miquelon (about 15 miles from Newfoundland) are staight-up French. I'll refrain, in an unaccountable moment of good taste, from commenting on the Quebecois. But let's not forget about the folks in Martinique--I understand they all learned their manners at the same knee. |

'Bout time this came out!!! Although I come from French heritage on my father's side of the family, I have been to France among other European countries and can say that the Parisians are very in need of social skills to say the least, in dealing with the rest of the world. Having said that, I found other parts of France to be much more friendly. |
