Another vote for gmail. I send the few spams I get to "Report Spam" and never hear from them again...

I need to change my email account and am a little tired of having to use the cable services, specifically when you move or cancel services you loose your account. Who do you use for your email account ? Hotmail, gmail, yahoo, other. How easy is to interface with Thunderbird or ( god forbid Outlook or OE )? Any other recommendations ? Again I need an email but am tired of loosing it when I move or change my ISP. |

I know Gmail allows pop access outside of it's website, so you can check it on Outlook, I don't know about Thunderbird... I don't think Hotmail nor Yahoo allow you to check your mail outside of their website. |

Gmail works very good no complaints up until I upgraded all my computers to Microsoft office 2007. Now Gmail conflicts on outbound messages using outlook on every computer I have and reading help sites and work arounds there simply isn't any. So if you are planning on using Outlook 2007 or above Don't use Gmail. A new free alternative I just was forced to change to is www.gmx.com works with Thunderbird and Outlook no problem. |

So if you are planning on using Outlook 2007 or above Don't use Gmail. A new free alternative I just was forced to change to is www.gmx.com works with Thunderbird and Outlook no problem. No matter where you get your emails, NEVER use Outlook. Outlook stores all of your emails on your computer regardless if the site you use for your email has large quantity of online storage. GMail is good, I use it for some personal stuff. Only draw back is you will notice that the program "reads" your emails and tailors all advertising around your email to the content of said email. |

For over 10 years I have used netaddress.com It works like Hotmail, in that it is hosted elsewhere, and the only software required is a web browser. Cost is about $35 a year. It has a really great spam filter and a unique personal mail filter. You can whitelist (or blacklist) with lots of options. It also allows you to create multiple unique deleteable eMail addresses. This feature is really handy for registering at potential spamming websites (porn, dating sites, lawyers, ordering stuff online, etc). It will forward mai to another address or text it to you. I really like it. I have been through multiple ISPs in that interval, and have used none of their eMail services. |

Personally I use Gmail and I've never used outlook for email from my home PC. |

I use www.fastmail.us, they have both free and paid options. The paid option I have includes file storage and the ability to create alias email accounts (good for not giving out you main account) among other features. I have it synced with my iphone and outlook through IMAP no problem. If you want a good free option it would be gmail though. |

Gmail. Been using it since it started, and have had almost zip for spam. Maybe 1 a month gets by, if that. Its also never wrongfully sent an email to the spam folder, which seems to be a problem with other services Ive tried. |

Patriot: While I have been a beta tester for everything associated with Google which includes gmail; have several gmail accounts; use them all the time....I gotta say that the "conversation" concept of gmail sux. You're not able to create folders for seperate emails so you end up having a string of a gazillion "conversations"....yeah....you can "star" 'em (and label 'em as J0sie notes below)...but big deal. You can also "archive" "conversations" but if you space out that you've archived it.....well...it might be weeks before you recall where that email is.....depends on your personal dosage of the medication you take! Go with Yahoo! or Hotmail......a bit "old school"....but the ability to create files/folders is most excellent. And, whether we like it or not....most of Latin America has embraced Yahoo! and Yahoo! Messenger.....why fight city hall....it's easy; the spam filter works quite well just as the other "advanced features" which easily allow you to block senders, domains, blah, blah, blah. Oh yeah....the Java required on Gmail gets funky a LOT of the time when you're composing an email.....and that's just one glitch....NOTE: Gmail is STILL IN BETA...... Go with Yahoo! or Hotmail is my suggestion.... Steven1, in Gmail they are called Labels and yes you can separate a conversation by Labels and create and rename as many as you want.
