Hi all, I am a newbie to this site, but not to the mongering world. I am planning a trip, probably in the next 2-3 weeks(maybe June 12th if things work out) to take advantage of funemployment! I am 27 and fun to hang with. Hablo espanol for the most part. Anyways, I think I am gonna stay at Hotel Morazan in order to get that short walk from HDR at night (is it safe for that short of a walk)? Anywho, I'd love to meet up with a bud or buds and get the show me around tour. On my docket already are HDR on a Friday or sat night? HLH and SL the rest of the time along with a volcano excursion... Anything else that I must try? A budget minded trip. I will only be staying for 3-4 days, then off to Guatemala via the Tica bus for some free sun on the beach. Muchos gracias! Cheers, OS |

Brother Oyster Sauce--Welcome aboard. Interesting choice of handle. The conventional wisdom is that after dark in the Gulch to take a cab if it's more than a block but if you walk quickly and more importantly keep your wits about you (i.e. keep that neck on 360 swivel) you should be alright. Definitely try to make the SL Happy Hour. You seem to realize there's much more to CR than the Gulch--good on you. Look up Brother Prolijo's posts on day trips so in the future you'll have more definite plans for daytime excursions--there are others who have posted on the topic but his are the most extensive. |

Yes. In fact when taking a cab I usually walk at least halfway to the Morazan to avoid getting ripped off by the fares the taxis parked at the Del Rey try to charge. See the post below for recent reviews of your hotel choice: http://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=28637 |
