In a conversation with a friend yesterday,he told me that he read that Laura Chinchilla is leading her party's poll by 43% to 36% for President of Costa Rica over Johnnie Ayala the mayor of S.J. She gave up her vice Presidency to run for President in February. This is serious because this is the lady who managed to close all the casinos in Costa Rica from 5am to 3pm putting hundreds of workers out of jobs with the reasoning that it would "save the Ch*ldren". This do-gooder says that she is opposed to prostitution as well as gambling in CR. Her excuse for closing the casinos during these hours was that young "prostitutes" hang around the casinos looking for clients. Other than the DR there are very few working chicas in casinos, and they aren't in the DR for the casino. This is a serious concern for everyone here because there is no doubt in my mind that if elected she will try to outlaw prostitution. I know there is nothing any of us can do,but I thought I should give everone a heads-up. Personally,if they outlaw prostitution along with closing or restricting the casinos I will move out of CR. |

Really? It would take A+B? For most of us I think B alone would be enough to move or to no longer visit CR, and for gamblers, that A would be enough. |

Last week I overheard a bunch of working girls at SL discuss just how opposed they are to Chinchilla. A lone prostitute had the temerity to praise Chinchilla, only to be excoriated by the other Ticas. Ciaociao |

Ironically I was with one last night who wants to help younger working girls get out of the business. She is also an active supporter and campaign volunteer of Chinchilla... the conversation turned to why girls work in prostitution but it got a little difficult to explain, education, poverty, family, greed, laziness and just a job as contributing factors |

SAT word... showoff ![]() Seriously, if she does get elected and somehow manages to ban prostitution, Costa Rica will find out how much of a sex tourism country they really are, or aren't. The gulch businesses would be ruined. |

Pragmatist view: If they are no better at enforcing anti-prostitution laws than they are at all the others, then this will just be another bribe opportunity. How much effort do we expect they are going to expend on enforced morality? |

If this feminazi takes this and makes it her little pet project who knows.... Also, if it is going to be another unenforced law (with bribes)... who do you think will end up paying for those bribes in the long run? I mean in terms of higher hotel prices, higher drink prices, higher chica prices, etc |

I thought prostitution became more prevalent in recessions and in demographic areas that are economically depressed....guess not CR most be rolling in mula from her perspective.....what will all the single mothers do for money....work the cash register...think not that doesnt come close to paying the bills |

If the woman does get elected and if she is able to get laws passed to close the Del Rey and strip clubs, it will certainly change the 'scene' down here. I wouldn't worry too much myself living here. I already have girls call me almost daily looking offering their 'company.' I suspect the scene would change but the girls are needy and resourceful. If they have to take to the streets, they will. I doubt it'll come to that. |

Not to get political but I have a question. The Kennedy assassination was quite a bit before my time but aren't one of the deals with that is Kennedy wanting to stop a war and those who profited from manufacturing firearms or whatever wanted him gone? Or something like that? ![]() Wouldn't the same apply here? Don't the residents of CR realize that closing things like the DR and casinos might put even further stress on the economy? I mean, I'm certainly making no threats but that bitch better watch her back if she plans on doing those things. Right? ![]() Cujo |

excoriated, temerity ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Really very little reason to get excited until the party picks their candidates. Polls while interesting are not infallible particularly when the candidate will be selected by the party not the public. |

I don't think it is feasible that anyone could actually get prostitution outlawed here no matter what their moral convictions.... Enforcement would take up all their resources that can't actually take care of crime right now. IF she wins, I'm sure she'll grumble and maybe hassle a few businesses again. And then she will get to the real business of figuring out how she is gonna line her pockets while the getting is good... |
