Has any Gringo on CRT ever been deported from CR for over staying their 90 day VISA? Has anyone ever paid a fine for over staying their 90 day tourist VISA? If so where do yo pay your fine and how much is it? |

The fine system for over staying your tourist visa was discontinued years ago. I know quite a few people who actually went to the immigration office trying to pay the fine and were told to just go to the airport. It was possible years ago to go to a travel agent , pay some money and get the visa cleared up. Some friends of mine went to a travel agent recently about this and the agent had no idea what they were talking about. There is no fine system now. If anyone paid a fine to a cop it was a bribe. I think many people have been deported for over staying. Getting into some trouble with the police would be a good way .Or get caught up in an immigration sweep. They have alot of those in Jaco and yes some gringos have been deported as a result. |

To that question the answer is no but the question is a very narrow one since the person would have to be a member of CRT to get a positive response. I do know of a case where someone was denied reentry and barred from seeking reentry for 10 year. The person had a couple of immigration violations one of which was overstaying his 90 day tourist visa. He found out immigration agents were looking for him so he left the country, on advice from an abogado, to get a new 90 day visa and clear up that part of his problem. Would that have been successful if he did not have another alleged immigration violation? Can not tell from this case. |

guess the 4 month to live and 10k to spend post needs to account for a 72 hour trip out of the country. I'd go to Nica land for my 72 hour trip, then back to my beloved little darlings in CR. |

It's all about whether or not you get caught. I know people that have stayed here for 2-3 years without trouble, left, came back many times. No trouble. But times are changing. They're starting to get more organized with better computerization. It used to take them > 3 months just to get your entry in the computers, now I guess it's less than a week. One thing a friend of mine did was buy his exit tax within the 90 days. Don't know if that would fool anyone, most likely not, but a little confusion couldn't hurt ![]() I have known people who got kicked out. But they always were wanted for other things. So your milage will vary. |

Doubt that would work as the main portion of the exit tax stamp is collected by the airline and turned over to immigration. Not sure how the other airlines handle it but I know TACA has the agent that checks you in enter your name on a paper roster. I believe they match that to the final manifest to make sure they have everyone's exit tax form. |
